What is your background and how did you get started in bodybuilding?

High school wrestler turned to building and sculpting my physique.

Why do you love bodybuilding?

The art of changing the physique and the discipline it requires.

Training

Train Proper FormWhat is your training philosophy?

Off-season is 5 day a week training with 8-10 repetitions.

On season 7 day a week training with 12-20 repetitions.

What's a good workout routine that has given you results?

  • Monday - Quads. Squats, lunges, extensions. 20 sets of 15 to 20 reps.
  • Tuesday - Chest Presses. Mostly upper chest exercises. 20 sets of 10 to 12 reps.
  • Wednesday - Shoulder Presses. Upright rows and trap work. 20 sets of 10 to 12 reps.
  • Thursday - Cardio and Ab Work. 7 minutes of ab work, 45 minutes of high intensity cardio.
  • Friday - Hamstrings. 15 sets of 20 reps.
  • Saturday - Biceps and Triceps. 20 sets of 12 to 15 reps.
  • Sunday - Back. 20 sets of 12 to 15 reps.

If you have to pick only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

  1. Bench Press For building quality chest.
  2. Squats for building quality legs.
  3. Deadlifts for building back, traps and other tie ins.

What’s the best training tip you could give to others?

Train with proper form, eat whole clean foods, and get plenty of rest.

Nutrition

What is your philosophy on nutrition?

Garbage in garbage out… Maintain a quality source of protein, carbohydrates and fats to insure a quality physique.

Give us a typical day in your off season diet:

  • Meal 1: 12 egg whites 1 whole egg, 1 cup of oatmeal, two pieces of 12 grain toast, 1000mg of arginine, BCAAs 1000mg.
  • Meal 2: 2 scoops whey protein in H20, 1 banana.
  • Meal 3: 8-10 oz protein, 2 oz nuts, 1 yam or 1 cup brown rice, salad, 2000mg beta alanine.
  • Meal 4: 8-10 oz protein (see list below), 1 cup of complex carbs.
  • Pre work out: 20g of protein (NO Explode or Muscle Pharm).
  • Meal 5: 1 rice cake, gallon of H20.
  • Meal 6: 8-10 oz protein source, 1 cup complex carbs, baked potato or yam.
  • Meal 7: Rice cake, 20 oz of H20 and protein shake with 2 tablespoon of peanut butter.

Approximately 3500-4000 calories, 460g protein, 250g carbohydrates.

Advice For Others

What are the 3 best tips you'd give to someone thinking about competing in natural bodybuilding?

  1. Train with intensity.
  2. Eat a well balanced high protein diet with natural foods.
  3. Go watch some local competitions to see what it takes and ask questions!

What is your best advice for looking your best on competition day?

Sip water only, stay off your feet when your off stage!

How do you stay motivated? What advice would you give to someone who's having trouble staying on track?
