My site was created out of necessity to share my passion for living a healthy life filled with good nutrition, fitness, family and my faith. My desire is to promote healthy and conscience living that is purpose-based, attainable, fulfilling and enjoyable.
My Story
I love God first, I am a wife to my best friend since Junior High, a mother of six beautiful children (four boys and two girls), and a true fitness and training enthusiast. My background and education is in business and I served 10 years in the Army Reserves as a Civil Affairs Specialist, completing my service as a Sergeant.
My passion for fitness and training started in 2010, when I committed to a healthy lifestyle and signed on for the nation’s largest transformation competition, a $100,000 transformation challenge powered by Optimum Nutrition. With over 14,000 entrants, my husband and I won the contest and claimed both the grand prize for the male and female top transformations. After winning the 2011 transformation challenge, I continued on with the lifestyle and developed this desire to learn more about nutrition and fitness (beyond what goes in to focusing on a short-term goal).
Currently I am pursuing my Personal Trainer & Sports Nutrition Certifications from ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association), but this also led me to really focus on finding that balance with nutrition. I knew there had to be a way for this type of lifestyle to actually be enjoyable, and not as restricted, filled with unhealthy patterns and labeled as boring. As I begin to study and make the connection between my faith and how I took care of myself, it became clear that it was about developing healthy eating habits with good wholesome foods. From there, my work in the kitchen began.
Currently, I am a nutrition/recipe contributor to the Human Engine created by Kelechi Opara. This site is designed to deliver all things training, nutrition and wellness related from articles, tips, videos, recipes and more. I am a recipe Contributor for Eat Smart and Workout Hard on Facebook, with three columns (Fit Body Breakfast with Kia’s Fit Fare, Lean Body Baking & Desserts with Kia’s Fit Fare and Cooking Light Family Favorites with Kia’s Fit Fare).
My work has also been featured on Ripped Recipes, a great source developed to help people in all areas and levels of fitness find nutritious meals that are within their individual macronutrient needs.
