I am a wife, mother, middle school teacher, and figure competitor. I began training, seriously, almost three years ago and fell in love with bodybuilding and competing about a year ago. Like a lot of people, I believed that fitness just did not fit into my lifestyle and that I was too busy. However, when I found myself 185 pounds, a size 14/16, and barely able to keep up with my then 3 year old, I knew something had to change. My goal to ‘fit into a size 10’ and to just ‘commit to going to the gym 3 times per week’ quickly changed as I saw what intensity and persistence could do. I entered my first figure competition in October 2008, and competed in four shows last year. I was hooked not just on competition but the lifestyle that was required to be an active participant in the sport. Today, am preparing for my first national competition in 2010, and learning about how to have a productive off-season.
I aspire to share my experience with those who believe that attaining a higher level of fitness is impossible. It is very possible but there are no shortcuts and has to be incorporated into one’s daily life.
My writing interests include: family fitness, body image, competing for beginners, training for beginners, time management, and motivation.
