I want to start implementing the pull up into my back routine but am not strong enough yet. What is a great alternative to the pull up that I can use to progress towards that goal?

Try putting a chair or a few boxes underneath your legs. Use your legs as little as you can to push you up to the bar and soon enough you'll be cranking out double digits! Good luck

If you belong to a health club, use the assisted pullup / assisted dip machine.
