This BMR tool works on a proven formula and is very accurate. The calculator uses two formulas to calculate your body's daily calorie requirements.
- Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Formula
The basal metabolic rate formula takes several variables like height, weight, age and gender to calculate your calorie needs as if you did not do any exercise. - Harris Benedict Formula
The Harris Benedict Formula takes the number produced by the BMR formula and multiplies it depending on your activity level.
The only factor it omits is lean body mass and thus the ratio of muscle-to-fat a body has. Remember, leaner bodies need more calories than less leaner ones. Therefore, this equation will be very accurate in all but the very muscular (will underestimate calorie needs) and the very overweight (will over-estimate calorie needs).

If I am an "at home mom", do I use a sedentary life style or light activity plug in?
I'd like to lose .5 pounds a week, have 15 pounds to lose, try to stay busy, but I am not doing sports 1-3 times a week-like it states, but I do stay busy. I also exercise randomly and log that in when I do.
I like to have my calories set to lose the .5 weekly and when I exercise, "eat those calories back", rather than "assume" I am going to exercise...
Thanks

Im 17 and 5'11 (72 in) tall i weigh 150 and have a moderate build but think that my diet is my reason for my lack of gains. Although i like to eat the right food im at school for 2 meals of the day. So any ideas on a meal plan for a Highschool student in order to gain muscle.

Hi, according to the calorie counter my daily intake should be 2445 Calories Per Day.
My current body fat is 35% of my body weight. I am 64 kgs and 5'4". I want to reduce fat without losing muscle while doing cardio exercises. So I am wondering if the calorie intake shown by the calculator here is excessive for me. What should be my ideal lean mass at my height.

Is this the requirements of the caloriea that helps burning fat and let the muscles remain? Or is this just to stay the same (maintain the body)?

I have been cutting for a month and have lost 12-15 lbs which is great. I wanted to get to 7% bodyfat I'm not sure what I'm at maybe 12-15 right now, but I am wanting to see more muscle development, I'm a skinny guy at 6 feet tall, though I want the belly (what is left gone) so 6pack can show before I bulk. Can I go ahead and bulk and depend on HIIT cardio and increased muscle which burns fat to get me there or should I ensure 6 pack first? Thanks for answering!
Posted Sun, 11/18/2012 - 10:55
When you bulk you lose the six pack regardless.. maybe you should look into a body recomp.

How do I account for poor diet and low calorie dieting in the equation for BMR and AMR. Some days I only get in 800 - 1000 calories, and sometimes I spend that day doing nothing. On others days I get 1600-1800 calories, and I burn maybe close to 300 calories. I try to exercise lightly at least 3 days a week for 15 minutes each time. Male, 32, 158lbs, 5'9. My diet tends to be cereal for breakfast, maybe 600 calories when including the milk. A rotisserie leg quarter rice and beans for lunch, maybe 800 calories, and peach cobbler for dinner (no butter)... maybe 400 calories serving size. On light days 250 calorie breakfast (2 graham crackers) and 650 calorie dinner (ramen noodle with 5 small shrimp)
please help me account for the conditions and determine an accurate BMR?

Awesome site.I want to lose inches. I gave up on lbs. I have always been extremely physically strong and atheletic. I am, however, only 5'4. Endomorph,I guess. According to these bmi calculators, eventhough active, I obviously don't eat enough???? I have constantly battled weight gain(145-160). I am terrified to eat the amount of calories these calculators suggest. I am now(45yrs)but crepted up this year to 175lbs...Protein & HIIT & MISS seem to be where I'm missing the boat. Basicaly, that means for me,train less & eat more....I am truely baffled. How do I trick my body into wanting this much food throughout the day?

Holy crap xD. My caloric needs are 2026?! Iv been consuming 1300 for the last year or so. Im a 13 Year old girl, 5'0" and weigh 100 lbs. I hope this calculator is accurate because im going to start with 2000 a day and im not looking to gain in any way. :I
Posted Fri, 11/23/2012 - 09:15
My bmr says I should be consuming 2847, is that right? I want to lose weight/body fat. I'm consuming about 1200-1600 and working out aggresively yet not seeing much results. I'm losing inches but not much weight, I'm gaining muscle, I can noticeably see it, but again, the scale isn't moving much. Should I be consuming more cals? Any help would be greayly appreciated! Thanks!

Trust me eating less than 1200kcal is the key to ur wt loss. I lost 6 kg in 2 months. Simple rule my Boris 2200kcal . I eat 1000kcal . So rest 1200kcal goes from my body fat(120 gm ). So every day i lose 120grams. My advice stop taking carbs . I have stopped rice roti, butter , pizzas . Listed i take oats, know soup with lot of green veggies.
Initially u have lot of craving for pizzas biryani and all those fried stuff . So i allow 1 pizza every wknd. So i search for tasty foods i switched to milk shakes and fruits and soups with added spices. Drink a lot of water, it will stop ur urgent cravings.

I need some direction, please help.I have plateau, and I need to lose 30lbs in 82 days. Which is 2.7 lbs a week, but with chirstmas I really need to work towards 3 per week to make up the difference and some gain of holiday eating. So I have calulated that if Im aloud 15421cal/week and need to go to the gym 1-3 time a week that I will be able to maintain my current weight. However if I want to lose 3 lbs/week. I then would calulate 3500 x 3 = 10500 divide by 7. So I only eat 703cal/day. this does not seem right. What am I doing wrong.
I have used an app that I only count calories in and out. I did this for 90 days and lost 24lbs. However I also dont understand the app would allow me to eat1261 to lose 2lbs per week. BUT if I did excerise I was given that more calories to eat. but when I tried to burn 500cals at the gym a day to try and lose that extra lb. I was not successful. I also bought a scale that reads a body fat % weight % and water % to make sure that my fat does down and my muscle goes up. So what am I doing wrong?? Why do I need to replace the calories that I burned and how can I get the 3lbs/week off. and It needs to be 30lbs lost as I have bet with money on this and I dont like to lose. I also have read about the HITT and MISS and plan on incorporating them into my new gym routine, that I am working non as we speak. Please help me!!! In total I have lost 50lbs little over a year and really want the last 30-40lbs gone before my 31 in April. pLease tell me what I am doing wrong.Thank you for your time and any help you can give me.

The tool on this page will give you an idea of your caloric needs, but keep in mind that you'll need to add calories to this number in order to build muscle mass. There are plenty of solid workout routines on the site, so feel free to look around for something that will fit your schedule.
