BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) Daily Calorie Calculator

Average: 3.9 (92 votes)
3.9 5 92
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) and calorie calculator is a excellent tool for working out how many calories your body needs on a daily basis depending on the amount and intensity of your exercise regime.

This BMR tool works on a proven formula and is very accurate. The calculator uses two formulas to calculate your body's daily calorie requirements.

  1. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Formula
The basal metabolic rate formula takes several variables like height, weight, age and gender to calculate your calorie needs as if you did not do any exercise.
  2. Harris Benedict Formula
The Harris Benedict Formula takes the number produced by the BMR formula and multiplies it depending on your activity level.

The only factor it omits is lean body mass and thus the ratio of muscle-to-fat a body has. Remember, leaner bodies need more calories than less leaner ones. Therefore, this equation will be very accurate in all but the very muscular (will underestimate calorie needs) and the very overweight (will over-estimate calorie needs).

It says here I need 2541 cal per day with a 4 day split training (Steve's power, muscle, burn 4 day split) and other sites say 3000+. I have put on 10 kg over the past 17 weeks with weight gainerbut now seem to be at a stand still. Also, any idea what kind of protein, carb, fat I need a day. Various websites come up with different figures but I aim for: Carbs: 314.16 g, Protein: 224.4 and fat 74 with 3000 calaories a day. It is hard work

I read somewhere on here I would deduct 500 from the 3063 which would put me at 2563. I am starting a 4 day work out this monday and my goal is to lose 1-2 pounds a week so what number should I follow.

I'm just frustrated. Just like another poster I do moderate weight training 3-4 times a week, with speed rope at the end. No time for more. I have a protein shake in the morning, oatmeal a few hours later, maybe some almonds., peanut butter on Joseph's whole wheat pita then gym at lunch. I come back to my sit at a computer desk job for a protein shake followed by a snack at 1 or 2pm. More almonds and an apple. I also drink coffee and a tone of water. Adds up to about 14-1500 cals. When I get home I eat what the wife cooks (usually something carby). Im 67" 155lbs age 41, I have some muscle but the calories here would make just my belly grow three sizes. What am I doing wrong? I should look great, instead I'm plateauing and looking like a typical desk jockey. And how the heck do you people find time for cooking these extravagant meals, prework workouts, and stretching with kids and still get 8 hrs of sleep? I also work 10 hr days not including lunch. I'm reaching out here, guys.

Hi Steve,

I am 23 years old, M, weighing 70kg. I go to the gym about three times a week for an hour / hour and a half and do mostly weights and some cycling. I put myself down as 'lightly active', but I think this may be optimistic as my job is largely desk based.

At Lightly active, I have a TDE of 2425
At sedentary, I have a TDE of 2116

If I am aiming to pack on some lean muscle, If I am correct, I should be eating between 2516 - 2825 calories a day (based on 400 surplus). Does that sound reasonable?

Also, what protein level should I be comsuming at this calorie range?

Thanks. Tom

Hey, I'm getting into lifting again and I had a few questions..so I lift very heavy 4 days a week an hour a session and I also have 1 or two half hour cardio sessions..now on top of that I work at a bakery 6 days a week, overnights doing pretty hard bench and oven work..basically a constant deal of lifting and running around under pretty hot conditions..usually I'm there for about 10 hours..now if my bmr is at 1800, and my workout around 450, and my occupation is 1200 cals burned, should I be under the impression that my activity level should be that of "extra active".. Now I know very well it's all about trial and error, and that's exactly what I have been doing except for im not losing anymore weight. About a month I have been eating around 2000 calories ..this is before I realized that it could possibly be due to to much of a deficit....could that be the case...? any advice would help..I mean will I be cutting at eating a whopping 2500 cals..? More so than 1800 due to slowing my metabolism/starvation mode...?

I am a 24 yr old weighing 185 lbs. I am moderately active going to the gym between 4-5 times a week. The calculator is showing me that I need almost 5k calories a day. I feel like this is kind of excessive. Am I just being paranoid about it?

Hi,
I am a 22 years old, 6 feet tall guy, and (drastically?) underweight for my height at 54kgs. I've been sedentary in every sense of the word (except the occasional jogging), yet it says I need only 1847 calories. I might not know much but that doesn't sound appropriate... I'm going to join a weight gain programme at a local gym, so I thought I'd do some "research". Is the calculator right in my case?

47 years, 63 inches, 151 moderately active (runner and extensive walking 4-5 days a week) I am calculating 1387 BMR, and confused now as to how to get calories and to my final "calorie intake" to lose 16 pounds. Can someone help me? Sorry to be a bother but been reading so much I believe I am confusing myself over and over. Thank you.

OK, so it calculated me at 2449 calories a day. Isn't a guy supposed to have 2,500 per day anyway?

I'm 29 and very slim at 6ft 3" and roughly 72kg. The thing is I'm extremely fit from years of endurance running and now I am fed up and want to bulk up. I eat very well but nothing seems to touch the sides! Surely I need to be eating FAR more than what has been specified here.

If someone could please point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one with this body type... I'm tall, slim, have next to no fat on me but still considered healthy by my doctor. I eat so much and don't gain an ounce. I even gave up all exercise to see if that would make any difference. Which it didn't!

Hello Steve, I didnt know anything about nutrition until I started doing research.
On season: what will be the right thing to do to shred fat and keep the muscle I have. eat a lot of protein and no carbs if so whast is teh ideal amount I should eat.
I weight 176lbs with about 10-12% body fat I do 1 hr of L.I.cardio every day, abs 3 times a week and afternoon weight training doing sets of 12-15 reps basically I go to the gym 2X a day every day Mon - Fri also I eat 5 to 6 clean meals a day where protein is always a good 70% of each plate and carbs 30%

My problem is that im afraid im not eating the right amounts of prot and carbs

For a female 5'2 130 lb 22.8% BF looking to build muscle and reduce bodyfat where should my calories be? I lift pretty heavy 5-6 days a week and 4x 45 cardio. This says 2300 calories, but that seems high. I was thinking 1500.?

Not sure if I agree with this calculator; I consume approx 3000 - 3500 calories per day. According to the calculator I should be consuming 5000 - 5500.

I have managed to add 30 lbs of lean mass to my frame in 12 months!

I am a 31 year old female. I have been trying for 12 weeks now to lose weight. I weigh 142 lbs, I'd like to be around 129 lbs. I have not budged a pound. I have been eating approximately 1300 calories this entire time, I got that calculation from another web site. I work out for about an hour per day, a mix of weight training and elliptical training. My job is not very active, light walking. I've even been wearing a pedometer to make sure I'm walking 10,000 steps every day as well. This website says my BMR is 1970 cals per day. So how many calories should I be eating to lose weight?
