BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) Daily Calorie Calculator

Average: 3.9 (90 votes)
3.9 5 90
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) and calorie calculator is a excellent tool for working out how many calories your body needs on a daily basis depending on the amount and intensity of your exercise regime.

This BMR tool works on a proven formula and is very accurate. The calculator uses two formulas to calculate your body's daily calorie requirements.

  1. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Formula
The basal metabolic rate formula takes several variables like height, weight, age and gender to calculate your calorie needs as if you did not do any exercise.
  2. Harris Benedict Formula
The Harris Benedict Formula takes the number produced by the BMR formula and multiplies it depending on your activity level.

The only factor it omits is lean body mass and thus the ratio of muscle-to-fat a body has. Remember, leaner bodies need more calories than less leaner ones. Therefore, this equation will be very accurate in all but the very muscular (will underestimate calorie needs) and the very overweight (will over-estimate calorie needs).

Is this number supposed to represent the net caloric intake or the gross total before calories burned from exercise?

I have used several bmr calculators and have gotten a range of 1400-2300 calories. I am a 39 yo female, 180.2lbs and 5'0. I'm working out 6 days a week (cardio and strength) and doing C25k. I want to lose 70 lbs.

I have a question: I am a 31 year old female that weighs 121 pounds and is 5'2" in height...I have been working out 6 days a week and eating nothing but chicken, sweet potatos, fruits, and vegetables daily, small portioned meals...I am trying to increase my strength and gain some muscle definition in my arms and legs, however, I don't see any muscular improvements and it's been nearly 2 months of lifting moderate weights and some cardio training...how can I add some muscle to my body?

Hi, I completed the info but i am not sure to populate the height field all in inches, so 5' 11" would be 71" or do I do it 5' 11"? wnen I did 71" it gave me a cal count of 3100, not sure tha sounds right.

Summer

I'm 15, female, and I'm 5'9. Last summer I weighed around 145 which isn't unhealthy for my height, but I wasn't happy with it so I started to eat way less until eventually I was only eating 800 calories a day. I maintained that for about two months, and now, I weigh 116. I realized that my eating habits were unhealthy so I started raising my caloric intake by 100 calories a week to speed up my metabolism again. I'm at 1200 calories a day now. The calculator says I can have 1700 a day though to maintain my weight without any exercise. So does that mean I could automatically start eating that much again, or do you think I should continue to raise my caloric intake by 100 calories a week until I get to that amount? I still don't know if I would gain any weight by doing that though, and I'm trying to at least get back up to 125 and have a healthy BMI again.
Thanks, Summer.

How accurate is this. Other websites say I have a rate of 1600-1800. They don't calculate exercise but even without it. It still says 2211 on here. With exercise it says 2856(Moderate Exercise). I am 17 years old 5'"11(71 in.) and weigh 159 lbs.

Dear Steve,

First of all, let me tell you that I have been reading this website and almost all forums on this website for many months now. The question, I have today is about my calories intake that I just got after i calculated through this calculator.
25years Old, Male, 5' 11", 189 Lbs, 20% Body Fat and moderately active. The calculator says that I have to take 5207 Calories daily based on my BMR. Does it not seem a little too much? Can you please help me with this? And, also if it is correct, what should the percentage of Fat, Carbs and Protein?
Thank you so much Sir.

Hi,
I'm also trying to work out how active i am. The only sport i do is weightlifting whuch is typically 3 days a week, but my job can be very physical, lots of heavy lifting (but not always). I .also walk .to work every day which .is 4 miles total (5 days a week.)
i would have put myself at 'moderately active' but the physical job thing makes me wonder otherwise, and the difference is nearly 1000 calories, so I'd appreciate a little advice.

I am 34 year old female. I weigh 250 lbs, and I am 66 inches tall.
I walk each morning for 40 minutes, enough to get my heart rate up and break light sweat. Two evenings per week I do a 75 minute bootcamp.
I used the calculator, selected moderately active, and got a BMR of 2603 calories per day.
I am working with a dietitian who has me consuming 1800 calories per day. I am VERY careful to stick to this plan. But I do not lose weight. I do not gain muscle mass.
What am I doing wrong?
