Bench Press Calculator - Calculate Your 1 REP MAX

Average: 4.2 (214 votes)
4.2 5 214
The Muscle & Strength bench press calculator can be used to work out your approximate 1 REP MAX bench press. These figures are not 100% accurate, but it serves as a good guide!

This bench press calculator can be used to work out your approximate 1 REP MAX bench press. The way this bench calculator works is it takes the amount of weight you can bench for a certain number of reps and uses a formula to calculate your approximate 1 REP MAX. Obviously, these figures are not 100% accurate.

To use the bench press calculator simply enter the weight in the first box provided and select the number of reps from the drop down box. For example, if I benched 100kg for 10 reps I would enter 100 and select 10 reps. The bench press calculator works in both pounds and kilograms.

Im 6'2" 200 and I can rep 225 8 times but last time I checked my max was around 275 which makes the calculator pretty accurate. Guess Ill have to try for 3. Perhaps some of the people that can bench more and weigh less are using incorrect form such as arching their back.. Who knows but Id say this calculator is close to dead on.

Incorrect form for a bodybuilder perhaps. In powerlifting, the back is arched for a reason. Not only does it allow you to lift more by reducing rom and allowing more drive from your legs and back, but the shoulder position reduces the chance of rotator cuff injuries. “Bad form“ can be subjective.

Your lifting form is bad and therfor your max is wrong. I could name everything you do wrong, but the characters are limited. So ill make it quick....butt, back and shoulders should be down at all time, no space between your body and the bench. Lift off the rack and hold for two seconds, lower slowly and settle into your chest for two seconds, press all the way to the top and hold locked for two seconds, rack the weight. This is how you max out competitively.

This is wrong. you are actually suppose to have a big chest meaning your back will not be on the bench. However, I agree with you on that your shoulders and butt should never come off the bench.

Calculators like this have worked for me all the way up from highschool, and I'm just now breaking 300lbs as a max and it's pretty accurate. But... for some reason, at home with my standard size bar, that weighs 15 lbs confirmed, I end up lifting less than I can with the same weight on a confirmed 45 lbs olympic bar. If you're doing your maxes on an olympic bar and your reps on a standard, that might be why. I always go with the olympic results though, no real reason not to.

I'm sorry but there is no way that you can put up 300 and only bench 225 6 or 7 times. I can put up 285 8 times and only hit 350

well it all depends on how you bench bro, if your but stays on the bench when you push up then idk what to say, if it does, your benching incorrectly

If you didn't know there are different types of responsive skeletal muscles. Endurance muscle and max strength muscle are not the same thing. Lean striated muscle is good for endurance and reps. Bulky muscle is good for the 1 set max. A balance is needed to be a good athlete. If you can do 100 push ups doesn't mean you can bench double your body weight. Also another note. . . power comes from the mind and the belief that you can accomplish anything. The mind controls the body not the other way around. If you push yourself beyond your limit then you will get the gains you need. Train for that OVERTIME. 4TH QUARTER, 4TH QUARTER, 4TH QUARTER. . . KEEP THAT IN MIND. The most important set is the one you didn't know you had left.

thats because guys like us with long arms are not built for bench pressing, I am 6'1 and 205 and can only get 315 up and 225 about 8 times, longer arms longer the rep, tire out to quickly

If youre 6'2" Im guessing you have long arms. This can have a larger influence on your reps than on your max. I have short arms so this helps alot.

This seems to be on. I am 175 - 5'11". I can bench 240 six times and on a good day Bench 285 once. I just got back in the gym 3.5 months ago after a nine year drought. I started out benching about 185. I will say this workout probably doesn't work well when you first start out or back as you do need to build up some endurance for about a month.

This is just a bench mark tool that is very helpful to me. I just told a kid about this site and he was within 5lbs of his max. I am usually within 5 lbs. of my 1 rep max. and that is sufficient for my needs.. I did 225x13 last week and this week @ 45 years old I benched 315 lbs. of course @ 5'10" 235 lbs. with 23% body fat I need to keep dieting.. HAHA However last year at 255 lbs I did 225x18 and had a 1RM of 345 lbs. That is only 6 lbs. difference from this calculator.

I'm not sure how accurate this thing is, but I'm thinking it's pretty close. I'm 5'5" and weigh 130 and can rep 205 5 times, so this is saying my max is about 240.

I have been at competitions in my day that have dudes that small doing even better.
don't knock what ya don't know.
this has me at a 347lb max but some other calculators have me at a 337lb max and one other at 341 pounds. i don't dare one rep anymore...too injury prone these days...i would be happy just repping 315 for 10 reps...and I am not far off.

bench shirts save my shoulders they keep things tight ,I got a rotator cuff problem and the shirt helped and my is open in the back and its a single ply it does'nt do anything but stop me from getting injured ,after 225lbs I put it on

Actually that is quiet easily possible. While in high school i used to weigh about 140 and i was maxing out at 230. There is a guy that goes to my gym, he is about 5,8 weighs 120lbs and his max is 315... and yes i was there to witness it. A lot depends on how people train. When i was benching 230 i was supposed to do about 170-180 10 times and i couldn't even do it 8 times. Just depends on how you build your muscle.

i used to lift 6 days a week 2x a day. I was 155 4.5% body fat and best bench, not MAX 470 at end of workout. I used 200 lb dumbbells for 6 sets of 6 and actually needed bigger dumbbells as this used to be easy. so bs urself and get in gear and workout harder and longer with good rest days between workouts.

As far as accuracy goes, it seems pretty close. That also seems to be the general consensus. I benched 310 lbs. 5 times and it gave me 360 lbs. I'm pretty close to that. But I'm wondering if other people have problems with the 1 rep calculator with the higher weights? No offense to the guys that put up 200's, I'm just wondering more about the 300 and 400 range for accuracy.

As far as the calculator goes, its within 3 pounds. I rep 320 for 5 sets of 5 and its says my 1 rep max is
373. I've done 370 but havent gone above that. 370 was after an actual chest workout, i'm sure I can get
380 no problem but no sense in posting that cuz i haven't done it yet.

If you're doing 5 sets of 5 with 320, then you should use different numbers, NOT 5 at 320.

If on your 5th set you're still doing 5 reps, then your first set was obviously not to failure, meaning you should actually be able to do more reps on the first one.

I would guess you could do 320 at 10-12 reps on the first set, if you can do 5X5. That would put you over 400lbs.

The calculator is dead on for me. I did 285X10 with the last rep @ definite failure. The calculator put me at 379, which is my max...give or take a lb.

I'm 19 years old, 5'8 and weigh 170 lbs. I can bench 185 x 10, and max 230. This calculator says my max is 245, which i can't put up. I think it gets more accurate with lower reps closer to your max. For example I do 205 4 times, in which case my max is 231 on the calc.

49 years old, haven't lifted in 14 years....started back two months ago....this seems to be right on in the 365 range...and matches old records for higher weight....so I think it is close too....and it is right on for my son too? I don't like singles very often, so this gives a way to see progress and challenge myself. Also handy for my young son who always wants to max, but I won't let him. This way he can see where his progress is
