What is gamma oryzanol and what does it do?
A mixture of ferulic acid esters and plant sterols come together to form gamma oryzanol. These items are dervived from corn, rice, and barley. The mass majority of gamma oryzanol that we use as supplements today comes from Japan.
Other common names for gamma oryzanol are gamma-oz, oryzanol, thiaminogen, and calculate.
What are the benefits of taking gamma oryzanol?
There are some pretty significant benefits of gamma oryzanol. Firstly, it stimulates the release of endorphins – these are hormones in our bodies that make us “feel good.” These hormones are responsible for stimulating the pleasure centers located in our brain, which in return elevates our levels of mood.
Secondly, gamma oryzanol has been shown to display a strong antioxidant characteristic. In fact, one study performed shown that it was anywhere up to ten times stronger and more effective than vitamin E for destroying free radicals from the body. This is important because this prevents tissue damage that can possibly result from actions of free radicals.
By elevating levels of testosterone in our bodies, it has the ability to boost strength, reduce body fat, increase muscle gain, and speed up the recovery time that we endure after each workout.
Who can benefit from taking gamma oryzanol?
As gamma oryzanol is not an essential nutrient, there is no recommended daily requirement for it. With that being said, many healthy adults can benefit from supplementing gamma oryzanol.
In addition, bodybuilders and those training can benefit specifically by taking this supplement because of the benefits listed above.
How much gamma oryzanol should I take?
There is no recommended dosage amount. As such, you should always strictly adhere to label guidelines found on the packing of the supplement you’re taking, including gamma oryzanol.
Does gamma oryzanol have any side effects?
There have been some reported side effects. These can include dry mouth, reduction of TSH, or thyroid stimulating hormone, or possibly irritability. Pregnant or nursing women should not take gamma oryzanol.
