What do you do if they get agressive?
I'm not a racist... but we do have problems with Moroccians in our country...
I had a case where the guy almost wanted to smash me in the face because I told him not to throw away the weights...

I mean, money related... the more members, the better... I understand my boss' opinion.
But still... you can't just say... go to another gym.. (you give refund?)

Damn Stevostine, that sounds like hell.

Anyway, I voted overcrowding, I hate having to wait to use what I want at the gym.

I don't get it... I'm responsable for the gym, but I'm not allowed to throw someone out, not obeying the rules... Just report it... That's what I do... but my boss is like '' Just don't talk to him anymore and avoid problems ''

WTF??
Steve, nobs don't have a spine, in fact they have no bone at all, so don't expect them to have the wherewithal to do anything except be a nob. You are in the same position many people are, asked to do a job but not given the tools given to do the job by the same people who hold you accountable for doing it.

I'd tell the ****s who leave the weights out to pull their heads in and quit being slobs, that you are not their mother and that unless their mother or their maid is coming to clean up that they need to clean up after themselves the same as they do on the bloody loo... or does mommy still do that for you too?

Do it in front of as many people as possible and do it with a smile. If they do touch you, you'll have 'em by the legal balls but odds are they will respect you for showing some sack.

It's true that overcrowding is annoying but I try to make people change exercises alot so that they don't have to wait until the other dude finishes his exercise... Do another one instead

To come back to expat... I don't believe in agressive talk or lower the people in the gym... Others don't give a damn to help you out in case someone gets nervous on you..
First of all, i'm only 68kg versus 100 - 120 kg bodybuilders... and i'm very aware they could crush me in 5 seconds. It's not that I'm scared of that, but I don't want to work in a gym, where those guys will wait outside to kick my ass...
What I do: "My God, this place looks like a zoo... If i can lift those 80 lbs dumbells, this makes me stronger then all of you... ''
So I lift a few dumbells, put them back, have a look at the guys and then a big smiles comes on my face... ''Easy huh?''
People don't give a damn about respect here... and agressiveness gets rewarded by a good beaten up...
That's how hard life is going near Brussels...

Im sure if one of them started on you in or outside the gym someone would help you, i mean who wouldnt? Hell i even managed to have a fight with a tramp once after he hit some woman for no reason which didnt go to well (Tramps are surprisingly hard for being malnourished). But you really have 2 choices.

You let them push you around for fear of getting your ass kicked, or you do something about it. But you cant rly guide someone as what to do because the consequences change.

But to be fair your gym sounds like a **** hole (No offence) So id just leave and work somewhere else, where the manager and members treat you with respect.

Agreed, flash website, but from what you've described... I'd seek employment elsewhere.

yeah... maybe....

These are all a bunch of losers you know... You think they are your friends because you see them alot in the gym and talk to them and even make fun with them... but when there is a problem, they all just watch...

Worst part is... some want to be ''friends'' with you to gain information about chicks or want to make profit out of the system (taking drinks from me, coz i have half price, or free towels, free invitations of their friends, etc...)

This is a no go... you know... you can say once, oh forgot a towel? Here ya go, one of tha house, but take it next time... There is not ''towel boy'' written on my forehead... don't expect everytime me to give you one... same with invitations... don't come every week with ''Hey can you invite my friend again?'' Uhh no... membership fees are... and so on...

The nicer you are to them, the more they will try to make profit out of you...

And I HATE that...

One of my collegues is such a wuss, he allows everything, invites a bunch of ''friends of friends'' EVERYTIME, so he's loved by them jerks and they think me and another collegue are the bad guys... (because we don't do it)

The gym I work in is pretty great... the only thing that sucks is the organisation...
But to make my own business there, it's going pretty good

Too bad I don't live near your gym Doug... I would have applied for a job otherwise at Gemini

Cool

I was thinking of you gym yesterday mate... I was doing my shoulders when some 50kg newbie threw down his weights after doing DB bench presses. I was three metres away and one hit me in the ankle. I throttled him up against the wall and gave him a proper spray in chinese/russian/english while the gym staff all stood like deaf dumb and blind mutes. Seems your gym might not be the only one with problems like you describe.
