Personal trainers. Some people love em, some hate em!

Have you ever used a personal trainer? If so, what were your experiences with them?

When I first joined a gym i had no idea what I was doing. I was your classic new gym user, doing almost everything wrong! After about 3 months of 0 gains I enlisted in the help of a personal trainer and gym owner to sort me out. He was also into bodybuilding and was a fantastic help. He got me on the right supps and workout program and I gained 7kg in 2 months.

Basically, he pointed me in the right direction and I did the rest on my own. I just needed to be shown the way!

That's my only experience hiring a personal trainer, now I train with a few trainers!

With all the information available online, I didn't need one.

If i was ever to get one it would be for diet and motivation with a specific goal in mind like a competition or something

Personal trainers can be of great value, if you are new to training, or for sport specific training....but the trainer must have experience in the field that he/she is teaching, no good having someone who is training a person in a specific sport and has no experience in the specific sport, or like somebody who wants to be a bodybuilder and the trainer has no experience in bodybuilding, it is the same with any sport, a basic personal trainer will give a good base knowlege in all forms of training, and basic nutritional information

When I first started I hired a PT. He was a great help. Probably saved me a lot of wasted time in the gym. They're getting exp though these days, up to $100/hr

Definately.

I have found with my experiences with PT's is that most of them are good for training for weight loss but not muscle gain. I have received some really bull**** advice over the years from PT's who didnt know the first thing about building muscle, they were just reciting what they learnt in the test to qualify to be a PT.

I would never hire a PT that isn't ripped or has experienced training bodybuilders. A huge part of learning to pack on the muscle is personal experience. How can you tall someone to do something when you've never done it yourself?

Man 10 quid is cheap!! I knew some PTs in London that charged 40 quid per hour.

They guys I train with charge $70/hour. And a few other PT's in my gym charge $90-$100/hour
