Never. I'm the one who is a personal trainer or at least do it part time.

My mom got me two training sessions with one guy and it didn't really help. I don't use any of the exercises that he gave me.

You probably won't believe me here, but at my gym, they're free.
He turns up every weekday evenings until 9pm, all you need to do is ask him for a hand, and he'll tell you anything you want to know (how to do a particular exercise, nutrition advise, supplement advise, anything). he's full qualified, he used to compete, he went to uni and studied nutrition, he's qualified from YMCAfit, and he's ripped as hell !!

Are you serious? Where do I sign up to your Gym!
I have had a few sessions with a Personal Trainer, Sports Specific (boxing), he's good at what he motivates you to do, but for me most importantly he's a positive person, and you can feel that positive energy oozing out of him which gets me pumped!

I'll probably go to a gym after I graduate.

I've had a few trainers.
From my experience, the best trainer's I have had are those that actually compete or train people to compete on the "elite" level. I've had very good experience with people who train power lifters for competition.
My understanding is such that the best trainers are those that practice what they preach. Bodybuilders/Powerlifters/Olympics all need to get to low body fat % in order to compete. They are also familiar with injuries and how to actually lift, because they are really pushing themselves.
I really have my doubts about those graduates teaching people how to squat, when they don't even incorporate it in their own routines.
