MMA, Muay Thai
Hi Guys, Although im a new member i have been using this website for atleast 2 years and have found it to be really helpful. Im 17, 70 kilos, 5 foot 6 and have lifted weights for about 2 years with some significant gains.
I stopped weight training november of last year because I decided to take MMA seriously and am going to start competing in Australia later on in the year. I train muay thai and mma around 4 to 5 days a week, training can go for between 3.5 to 5 hours per day.
Basically my question is because ive had a big break since I last lifted what routine should i go for and should I go back to hitting all the major muscles in one session for a while or should I just start on a split routine.
The other thing is because i train so much I need a little bit of help figuring when to lift considering I start training between 2 to 4pm and finish at 7 30 and need time to regain energy before a big mma session.
I have finished year 12 so mornings and that are an option.
I was also wondering if anyone on here knows anything about height lol didnt wanna post anything stupid right away consdering this is muscle and strength.
Anyway guys hope I wasnt too annoying and I look forward to hearing from you.

What exactly is your training regime right now? Be specific, its important to know what, when, how often and how hard you train.

Ok sorry about that il try be as specific as possible. I mostly train 4 times a week and each training session goes from 2.30 to 7 30 except one which goes from 4 until 7 30. Each specific class goes for about 1 and a half hours so I do a few different classes each day.
60 percent of the boxing and thai classes are all pad work and we go flat out. 20 percent is sparring which we take a little easier. 15 percent skipping and 5 percent running which is again at full intensity.
I only train BJJ once a week and thats the shorter session from 4 til 7 30 and in that we basically just wrestle for position and submission for about half the lesson and practice techniques for the rest of the class (real hard on the core).
At the moment Im not lifting any weights and dont lift any at training either its basically all cardio and technique work.
The 4 days a week isnt set in stone either thats just how much I usually do, if im free i might be able to do 5 days if im busier might only do 3 but generally its 4.
And its also Monday to Friday.
Sorry again about the detail problem if theres anything else you need to know feel free to ask.
Btw have you had any boxing fights?

Ok, I would hit the beginner routine just to prevent an injury mate. You've got great aerobic fitness to be doing this routine but the weights will strain the ligaments and tendons in different ways than they are used to. Do Doug's beginner routine for 10 weeks and then I would recommend doing the compound movements workout. There is no reason for isolation exercises since you want to increase strength for a sport.
And yes, I've had a few fights. I've been at this for almost 20 years off and on as a boxer and as a trainer.

George st Pierre has a video online showing his workout, It usually incorporates pretty heavy weights with reps of 10, changing muscle groups with no rest. Which improves cardio vascular performance as the body has to pump blood from one muscle to the other.

Although this is random and a little off topic I still thought id put it out there. Is the old story of weights stunting your growth false? Most people ive trained with have assured me it is nothing but a myth. But seing as im 17 and 5 foot 5-6 and have lifted weights while I was younger around 14 and 15 im beggining to wonder if its true. My dads 5'9 and both my parents outgrew both of theres. The only reason this is an issue is for me is the fact that im a fighter, alot of fighters are shorter and are really good but still I spar with guys that are between 5'10 and 6'3 so the reach issue is quite frustrating.
Anyway im not holding my breath here lol but if anyone knows something they can share with me about I would appreicate it.
