The only reason this is an issue is for me is the fact that im a fighter, alot of fighters are shorter and are really good but still I spar with guys that are between 5'10 and 6'3 so the reach issue is quite frustrating.

Anyway im not holding my breath here lol but if anyone knows something they can share with me about I would appreicate it.
Heavy weight training while young can stunt growth, how tall is your mother?

Because im 6 inches shorter than my dad, hes 6'6 im 6'0 thanks to my short ass mum

haha dude I would love to be 6 foot. But anyway my mums around an inch shorter than me so around 5 foot 4. I mean I know genetics and stuff play a part in it all but to be perfectly honest with you since I started high school Ive been sleeping way less than what I should have, do you think this and the weightlifting could account for why I havent grown much?

I mean im only 17 so do you think theres a chance for me to grow some more?

Hey mate, couple things for ya. One its NOT a myth. Its a fact that lifting heavy weights can stunt your growth. This is because it can damage the growth plates on your long bones which means they will stop growing or grow abnormally and yes you will be shorter. Does it happen to everyone? No. But why take the risk?? The rule of thumb is until you do stop growing (generally around 18-19 for men) do not lift a weight so heavy that you cannot do a minimum of 8 reps in perfect form.

So yes you still have time that you might grow so that also means you need to limit yourself in the gym for a little bit as well.

ahk cool. Personally I dont think I over did it with my weight lifting, I was working out at home using what little equipment I had and never really used a very heavy weight but I could be wrong. Is there a way to check if your finished growing or how tall your going to be? Sorry again if im asking stupid questions guys lol.

As far as I know there is no way to test if you're done growing but maybe someone else on here knows something different about this.

Dude nothing wrong with being 5'6, your insulting me dude cause I'm the same height I'm gonna kick your ass. Just kidding with ya, but I am 5'6 and I'm 20 and I'm one of the tallest in my family sad I know my dad is 5'5 mom 5'2. I was 4'10 up till 10th grade then grew 2 inches that year then 6 inches during my 11th grade year and none 12th. And with reach againest taller guys from experiance you gotta wait for them to throw a punch to get close. Example: guy throws a right hand move your head to your left step in slap dudes hand with your right to offbalance him when he's confused bop him with a left hook, now this has to be done in one fluid motion so and alot easier to show then explain if its confuseing. Or you can flat out spear them to the ground and go wrestle and start raining some haymakers. And if you do a MMA match make sure to study the dude, it ain't a street fight. If that helped good if not oh well not my ass getting kicked.

height really has nothing to do with mma/muay thai...

mma is really about strength and technique... i did some mma training, (i'm 6') and was easily taken down by someone who was 5'5"... just because he had better technique and superior abilities...

and the best muay thai fighters tend to be on the smaller, faster side... big don't necessarily mean better...

use your body to your advantage... if you are shorter and have shorter limbs, then get in close... learn to apply better tackles, knee strikes, elbow strikes, body blows... while they are trying to shorten their attacks to compensate... if they have the advantage of reach, get in close...

Better be nice bub, Hehe. Now to another point about height and MMA, my fav. MMA fighter is Uriah Faber 5'6 146lbs and reigning whatever belt (its been awile since I've seen WEC). He is considered the best MMA fighter right now. He's a small guy but revered with high stature. Watch some of his fights and see what I mean.
