Default Dave Tate on Negative People

    Dave Tate on negative people:

Negative people are too much of a pain in the ass to spend much time with. If you can’t avoid them, then only communicate when you have to.

These people do not have the power to bring you down or ruin your day. Only you have the power to do this and the sooner you realize this, the better off you will be.

Negative people are also the one’s who believe they are experts in everything and go out of their way to offer unsolicited advice on just about every topic under the sun to prove how smart they are. Remember this, those who really know don’t need to show. Their results do the speaking for them.

Surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you and know how to keep their head up and look for solutions are the ones you want to spend most your time with. Find people who are “solution” oriented not “excuse oriented”. If you put yourself with those who are better than you at a specific subject or skill you WILL increase your game – you will get better. I do agree with something Tony Robbins said many times, “Love your family and friends, but choose your peer groups. You can’t pick your family and friendship can run deep. You can and should develop peer groups who hold high expectations of themselves and YOU.”

If you begin to become negative, you need people around you to pull your head out of your ass. These people are not easy to find but they’re out there.

A lot of good points in this gem, this being my favorite...

Also, avoiding negative people is important. Several of my lifting buddies discuss this point often. If you really want to succeed in life you can't walk around carrying the baggage that is other people's negativity. Ignore it and stay away from them.

Just like a Blunt Card about negative people.

It's so true that negative people don't have much to "offer" that can be viewed as "constructive", and are so draining on you, but there are people (like me), who tend to feel it their duty, when crossed by them, to help them, to realize something has made them this way, it's not entirely their own fault, it's not a trait they were born with, and if they (I) can help point this out/find the reason for them, then they (I) am a better person for not shunning them with the thought of "your opinion holds no value" or the excuse of "i have enough of my own problems". Cuz god knows, i most certainly do. Character flaws suck period. I, so many times, wish i were cold and non-caring, because life would be a hell of a lot easier for me, but that's just not who i am.

I work for a very negative company and in a very negative environment at the moment. It wasn't at one time. We have a sword over our heads and it is likely to fall, everyone is on edge and angry. It really is toxic right now. Thank goodness for the gym and the people there. They help me carry an ever increasing load.
A couple of positives though: If the place does go down, finding a new life could be terrific, new challenges are an interesting thought. Maybe I could continue my education full time even. My weight training has made me much stronger, mentally and physically. I have lots more energy and I certainly don't look or feel my age anymore. Well, what ever is in store for me, bring it on and I'll enjoy the ride.

Wow, this is my work situation pretty much also. I work for really negative company, too, and morale is in the toilet. I also have a "supervisor" who is just a really miserable human being and tries to make everyone else feel the same way by constantly tattling on everyone to the big boss, amongst other things. The tension is high. I don't want to wish losing my job on myself, but I often think the same thing you do -- a nice little break and a change might be a good thing.

    Hang in there!
