    Default Supplements

    Ok guys,

There many posts here from guys about protein drinks/supplements etc but what do you guys recommend for us females?

There are many protein drinks that are directed particularly for women but are there brands out there that should be used as a preference?

I have concerns whether I'm taking a 'meal replacement' and therefore shouldn't be eating when I have my protein drink or whether this is just helping me after my workout??

Is there any supplements that you'd recommend as a 'must be having'?

    Cheers

    Ljay..

Protein supplements are for both male and female athletes, all they are is an easy way of getting a higher quality protein than you would get out of normal food into the body.

A "meal Replacement is a protein and carbohydrate drink...and is used in place of a meal. You can have a drink and solid food to up the calorific intake for the meal, depending on how many calories you need in that particular meal.

If your goal is to lose weight, I would say there is no "must have" supplement, it's all about diet. You can easily get all the protein you need from lean sources, and you don't need huge amounts like a bodybuilder. Vegetarians would benefit the most from protein shakes.

If you are going to take supps, always check out the label and see how much calories are in them. Meal replacement shakes are often pretty high in calories, which is good for weight gain but not good for weight loss.

Well yeah my aim is to lose weight - the current protein drink is low in fat and carbs. The product 'Vital Strength - Slimsation' says to have two scoops with 200ml of milk although I only have one scoop with 200ml of milk otherwise it is extremely powdery and makes me feel ill.

The original Q re meal replacement was because it says on the back that it 'Slimasation is the first and only meal replacement to combine the benefits of protein with Teavigo'...I question this due to it's low carbs and calories. Below is the details of the shake (without the skim milk factored in)

    calories - 53
    protein - 8.75g
    fat (total) - 0.75g
    fat (saturated) - 0.45g
    carbs (total) - 1.85g
    sugars - 1.25g

It also has a heap of other things such as L-Carnitine, Teavigo and various vitamins and minerals. I've stuck with this one for a while and I really enjoy the taste compared to others I've tried and I figure if I enjoy drinking it then that's even better. If there's another brand/type that anyone can recommend then I'm more than happy to try it - that's if this is one isn't beneficial to me??

Ljay, The protein drink that you are having: if you like it then stick with it, as you may buy another and not like the taste of it...the teavigo is a green tea extract and you can buy that nowadays from anywhere, also green tea is now put into a lot of slimming products and supplements, it is also a superb antioxidant. The price of your protein drink is a bit on the high side, you may find that they do a larger size ?? as the bigger sizes tend to be cheaper.

I have sent you an email with a reply to the information you sent me..
