    Default Farm Boy Workout

I know what you're thinking, "Uh-oh, Cuckoo's been contemplating again!" But hear me out, hopefully you all are in a playful mood.

I've been thinking for awhile that back in the olden days before gyms and Cybex machines, people got their exercise doing manual labor. Since I live in an agricultural area, that manual labor came from farming.

I've wanted to come up with a workout of sorts that duplicated the work of our ancestors, thus the Farm Boy Workout. I also thought it might be fun for anyone to chip in with their own ideas. Basically things you could do around the house/yard if you couldn't get to the gym.

(Note: This thread was partially inspired by this thread - http://www.muscleandstrength.com/for...tml#post475600 )

    --- ---

So, a few things to start off:

    1. Lifting/Stacking/Lugging 50# sacks of gravel from one end of the yard to the other.

    2. Of course, a farmer's carry, maybe with a large flat rock?

    3. The sledgehammer swinging mentioned in the above thread.

    Any other ideas?

Grab two heavy dumbbells, and walk with em, like they're a wheelbarrow.

You could carry a newborn calf on your shoulders. If you progress to a full grown cow, enter the olympics

walk through deep mud, the kind that your shoes come off if you don't have them on tight, carrying a couple of 10' long 4x4 treated posts.

You can come and clean out my attic and whitewash my fence. I'll only [B]charge you[B]$10 an hour. Seriously, look on Youtube at some high school wrestling off -season conditioning programs. They do a bunch of crazy core strengthening like flipping big tires and the like.

Yeah flipping tires are great!! They use it for mma training too! You can also hit the tire with the sledge hammer .

A great thing we do at muay thai training with medicine balls that DONT bounce back up is pick it up of the floor 45 degrees to your right, lift it above your head slam it down to about 45 degrees on your left hand side, then repeat for left hand side. You can use any object, that is roughly circular and DOESNT bounce up off the ground.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

Flipping tires is epic, but its horrible. At 140 and 5'6", I don't like the ones that are nearly as tall as myself.
