Default Which is best to mix whey protein, water or milk?

Hey peeps so i got my 5lb of 100% whey protein from gnc. The instructions say mix one scoop with 8 fl. oz of water. (which seems like to little to me )

Ive heard people saying they mix it with whole milk or skim milk and others with water , in my case im looking to gain mass and muscle mass which would suit me to drink it , with water or milk.

And my diet consists of 4 to 5 meals a day .
    thanks

Post WO I would mix it with water for quicker absorbtion. Since your bulking, I would use whole milk any other time.

Take no notice of manufacturers recommendations regarding a serving size, if they make the serving size small they can put on the label contains loads of servings, its a marketing ploy. The amount of protein you require in a serving is the amount of protein you require per meal.

protein in water first in the a.m before breakie
    protein in water post-work out
protein in milk when u want to slow down the digestion process and feed your body with protein over longer periods. ie just before bed, or you know your not going to be able to eat for a good few hours (4hrs+)

whey protein isolate is processed in 20mins or so
whey protein concentrate takes a bit longer (not too sure how long)
    Caesin is the slowest digesting

OP: What are your stats? How long you've been training?
I am posting this just in case you get the idea that the above can be a daily practice.

Don't take your whey more than once a day if you're a beginner, directly after training is preferable. Get your protein from whole foods on every other occasion. But if you want to try it, whey in the morning with milk is an option on non-training days. Just don't go overboard.

If you would like more info on the dangers of overconsumption of whey, PM me.

I'd rep you again abaddon but gotta spread the love a bit first :P hahhah Not meaning to hijack just saying this because I think it adds to the thread. But in your post workout I've been told that it's good to add some fruits into a mix if you can so you get your carbs too, or maybe eat a fruit with the protein shake if you can't blend it. (haven't ever tried protein powder with water and fruit don't know how'd that taste :S)

But yeah what do you guys think fruit with protein powder better or worse??

This is like the fifth post asking the same exact question in the past two weeks. Doesn't anyone use the search button?? Use milk PWO, NOT water, unless you want to waste about 60% of the protein. Whey absorbs too quickly and is mostly converted to sugar through the process of glucogenosis through the liver, so rhose important aminos never make it to the luver. Use milk to slow that down a bit, as milk has some casein in it. -EK

I would like to hear more on this from some people. Everyone else seems to say the opposite of this!

The idea behind mixing whey with milk is recent. If you do a pubmed search on recent papers, you will definitely see the trend, and it's also backed by recent whey products in the market which switch from just whey itself to a more blended version.

This was one of EK's thread: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/for...-not-whey.html

    Hi,
I take whey protein in the morning as breakfast with milk. Just once a day. I've been training for a month or so (I've trained in the past). Do you think I should take another serving after training with water?

Searching on this topic results in 1/2 the posts saying use water, and 1/2 the posts saying use milk. So even if they do search, they're going to get two different answers to the question. There's not alot of consistency on this topic as of late. Individuals are, but the general answers are split.

Oh I understand, but for those of us that dont know, it's very difficult to look at the answers given, each having (seemingly) professional studies to back them up, and each coming from people who are clearly knowledgeable of the subject, to see 2 completely different answers that are black and white. So when brand new people search, they're gonna become confused and post anyway, lol.

This sort of issue is only compounded on a forum.

I realize that but I think you're missing my point. If you have several threads already addressing this topic, with opinions divided as you mention, what makes you think starting yet another thread will give you different opinions? There's no logic there; you'll get the same answers in this thread as all the others, so use the search button first. If five threads all give you the same replies, why would a sixth be different? -EK

I'm not missing your point at all. I'm simply telling you my opinion. Nor did I claim it made any logical sense, and I certainly have never started a thread on the subject since I've read all the opinions already. People simply aren't always logical, all the time.
