Default I'm skinny but have belly fat need help getting rid of it!

Hey everyone. I'm 27, male, 6'1 and about 165lbs. I've always been very lean, can eat like a pig and never gain a pound which makes working out hard to gain muscle! Everyone always used to tell me eventually I'll hit an age and it will all go down hill etc etc. I think I'm finally there lol.

If I eat junk food or anything bad, it all goes right to my stomach and a bit to love handles region. It's not terrible, not like a big beer belly or anything but it's definitely a gut for sure. Annoying part is that I'm totally fit everywhere else, and normally I hold my stomach in like normal, so to everyone else they think I'm really skinny.

My problem is that I want my stomach to be gone, but I don't want to be MORE skinny, my goal is to gain weight and muscle. It's just hard because if I do a weights workout then eat a huge meal for protein and carbs, you can def see my tummy sticking out a bit in my shirt unless I suck in hard. I'm just worried if I don't do weights and just do cardio every day that I'd get even more skinny which I don't want. Just not sure what to do, weights and cardio but not eat as much or? The weird thing is I'm always so busy with work that half the time I skip breakfast, sometimes lunch as well, or I'll skip breakfast, have a coffee and just a super light lunch, so don't really take in that many calories each day but it doesn't change.

Just not sure what's best for me. Put the weights aside and just do hardcore cardio every day to lose the weight or?

Thanks so much for your help everyone!

Sounds to me like you just explained the exact symptoms of someone who needs to go on a cutting routine! No, don’t stop lifting. Don’t eat big. Lift heavy, on a calorie deficit and learn how to perform your cardio in a way that you burn fat and keep the muscle that you have (well, as much as possible) Kinda tricky, and it takes a little time, but you can get there.
When it's all over said and done, you're gonna regret the things you 'didn't do', more than the things you did.

That's reassuring!!! So when I lift weights should I do it the exact same way? Like the standard 6-8 reps etc etc or do I change that at all? Then for the cardio is it usually daily or whenever I can? How long does a cutting routine usually take?

there is two ways of bodybuilding, muscle building ( hypertrophy ) or muscle toning ( toning/definition) cutting or bulking doesnt change anything

The lifting routine isn’t all that important (what I’ve read ‘round here) long as you’re lifting heavy. Overloading the muscles, sending them a mess that they’re ‘needed’ and you cannot afford them to shed tissue, even though you’re dropping Lbs. And the cardio needs to be ‘intelligent’, done at the right time, at the right intensity. Again, speaking for what’s been said around here… ‘low intensity’ stuff, 45 mins before your first meal in the morn. And then another 45 mins after your weight training. Get this down and you’re burning mainly fat, instead of just losing ‘weight’.

Couple yrs ago I rode my bike up n down these hills like a mad man, lost a lotta wt, but just ended up looking skinny. Last couple cutting routines I’ve been on, the weight has come off much more slowly. But, I have a thicker look. Losing the fat while ‘keeping the muscle’ is key. Much more healthier IMO

Give er hell man, and keep us posted..

I woulden't cut. Spend 4-6 months on a clean bulk. Cutting will hamper your muscle gain. Yes you might get a bit fatter in the process but the muscle gain in the long run will be worth it.

Always push yourself on every set, trying for more reps. When you can perform the recommended numbers of reps for a set, add weight the next time you workout with that exercise.

Thanks everyone that helps. Got up this morning and did cardio. I think my problem is that I always skip breakfast and then do cardio at night. I'll try it in the morning and continue my normal workouts and eat healthy not overdoing it. Thanks!

I'm going to assume that's just spam, since you only have 2 posts here and are directing me to a website that wants me to pay for a workout lol.

I might agree with this.. if the OP was a beginner. But he's not. And after the 1st yr of lifting, all my bulking phases has left me disapointed, while a good cut will uncover and expose muscles. He has 1 - 2 yrs exp, and in his first couple lines says - it's been dificult building muscle and wants to lose the gut. Points to a cutting routine IMO and.. I think bulking is overrated.. LOL

I'm in a similiar position to the OP. i want to lose my belly fat and manboobs but can't afford to lose much weight as i'm skinny already and i find it very hard to gain weight, so if i lose too much weight i won't be able to gain it back through eating.

Are there any options for me that don't entail losing too much weight?
