    Default marijuana and weight lifting

has there been any kind of studies that suggest smoking weed can effect you abilities when weight lifting? i smoke sometimes before i go to the gym and it help me stay focussed. i keep my lifts in full motion and slow. alot of the times when i go there and i dont smoke, my mind wonders off and i check out girls and dont really concentrate on what im doing. i dont have to stop and cough or anything when i do cardio. is there any down falls that im not noticing?

Why keep the outside of a car all nice and sparkling, clean, and polished...if you're just gonna dump garbage on the seats? If you see my point...

I have high school friends who have smoked that stuff all their life. They are in an absolute state of brain decay and paranoia.

I have to be honest...if I owned a gym and I saw someone high, I would revoke their membership. I wouldn't want them on the equipment. Lack of concentration leads to injury. End of story.

I hope you reconsider the path you're on. I can't say that I haven't tried it - I have. But in life we always have a choice. Choose the path that makes you a better man.

There's a show called The Jeremy Kyle show over here, and no end of times is he dealing with people's screwed up lives due to the paranoia that smoking weed has brought on...there are people on the verge of losing everything due to their paranoia, and all because they smoke to relax...better to quit the habit early as BTB has pointed out, rather than risk losing everything sometime in your future.

If you have a problem staying focused try a pre-workout supp like White Flood or something to that effect. I really don't see how blowin trees before a workout keeps you focused.

I know often times advocates of weed try to claim it's harmless, but I've personally seen 2 friends just go off the deep end of sanity with paranoia. They threw away their lives, degrees, relationships. they have nothing. They live in closed off worlds with the shades drawn, and are - quite honestly - a shadow of a human being.

Well, i don't really do it as a habit, but as a thing i would do almost like a cheat meal in a sense. If you get what I mean..

Well, just remember that all bad habits start as recreational experiments

    Cigarettes, alcohol, pot, etc.

True, but I hate life with limitations. I only have 1 life, I'm not exactly killing myself and getting addicted to it, so i prefer to live my life doing things i would enjoy. not trying to say that what you don't do means you're limiting your life however.

Do what you will with your life but if I see you lifting weights near me and you're intoxicated, it's very likely that you and I will have a serious problem.

I personally have never smoked pot, but i have seen people high and i can't see how this could help you in your training at all. Not only would it limit your abilities but what about the "munchies"? As doug says " You can't out train a lousy diet". From everything i have seen pot = lazy, dumb, paranoid people. Good diet and exercise= Energetic, happy, confident people. Which would you rather be.

drugs are for mugs, Never tried it never will. Lose all respect for people when they do that because there is no need, you think shortening your life because you want to fill your lungs with green smoke and mash up your mind is enjoyable/enhancing your life?

I think the question was if there were any studies done on marijuana and weight training, not if it's a good life choice or not... I don't smoke myself, it does nothing for me so a waste of money IMO. I do personally know a lot of doctors, lawyers, and other professional type people that smoke it and it gives them focus. And no they don't get blown out of their minds, just enough to take the edge off, relax, and focus at the task at hand. That being said, I don't know if there are any studies that have been done but if it works for you, it works for you. Like someone else said, just don't go super buzzed since there are families and the super buzz doesn't keep you focused =).

I'M REPLYING TO THE LIFESTYLE JABS NOT THE INITIAL HEALTH QUESTION.

-EVERY single time I'm sluggish after work and am considering taking a day off when I know I shouldn't, a quick J and I'm out the door ready to pump! I throw on the Ipod and my form and breathing are all I think about. Actually I find when I workout without smoking my mind's thinking about everything in my life but working out. Much better focus and my daily challenges stay at the door. Seems like a lot of people posting have issues with pot/drugs or people who use for whatever reasons.

-I'm 26, an Electrician, I longboard, snowboard, play in a band, do MMA twice a week and maintain my fitness accomplishments. I started burning at 14 and smoke a bit every day. It depends on how strong/weak your mind is to begin with. I was captain of the volleyball team, a starter on the bball team and toured in bands while burning almost every night. I have more accomplishments in life than most my friends and family members put together and that's the truth!

-I'd say more than half the people at my gym burn and they're paying the bills to keep the gym open so who cares. Focus on your workout not the "stoner" beside you who's in the zone... he's not thinking about you.

-I think a lot of girls would disagree with pot being a turn off, sex while high!!! Give it a shot I dare you hunny. The stereotypical rock star or rapper gets high and girls go crazy for em.

-The air we breathe is crap, the work conditions I work in some days: crap! With cancer, processed foods, stress, war, disease, crime, and accidents in general we're all doomed and who knows what's to come...

-With 10 years of experience I can say there are no serious side effects to smoking pot in moderation, but too much of ANYTHING is bad for ya. If you stretch properly, train properly, rest enough and have a good diet then pot doesn't make a difference either way. My supplier is huge and ripped! He smokes more a day than I could afford and I've only tapped him out once. Great size, shape and endurance on that guy!

    p.s. Arnold burned!!!!!!!!!!

This whole thread has been funny to read. To me there's a difference between chiefin and chiefin as a pre workout ritual. I could care less if people smoke but to smoke before lifting is just ridiculous.
