Protein supplements.
Guys,
I'm a little lost at the moment, mainly with regards to the bewildering array of protein supplement brands out there. I've read the articles on the main M&S page, and it seems that a Whey protein isolate powder is probably most suitable for me.
I'm in the first few months of trying to put on some size, and am quite fit - neither fat nor skinny. I'm eating 6 small meals a day on average, with high amounts of meat, fish, eggs and skim milk. The problem is, even when I add everything up, I'm having difficulty making the 1.5g protein/lb of body weight, and still getting the carbs that I need. I've been drinking extra skim milk to get there, which is fine, with one exception.
You know how some people get laxative effects from drinking lots of milk? Yeah, right here.
So I'm planning on getting the extra protein from powders, which sounds fine from the material that I've read. I'm thinking largely as a PWO shake, and perhaps as a midmorning meal too.
So, what's the deal with all the brands? Which are the ones to look for, and which are the ones to avoid? Obviously price is a factor, but I'm willing to pay for a solid product, so long as it's not just b/s.

Hey WillKo, A popular brand amongst posters is Optimum Nutritions 100% Whey. You get about 77 servings per 5lbs tub, which works out to be 50 cents (US $) a serving depending on where you get it from. (I would look for it on line and avoid stores like GNC or Vitamin World/Shoppe, etc.)
A good protein powder will give you the maximum amount of protein per scoop.
So for instance if the serving size is 1 scoop and the scoop is 30 grams and the protein provided is 24 grams then 24/30grams = 80%. Much better than a 30 gram scoop that only provides 18 grams of protein.
As for PWO additives, you can get powdered dextrose and add it yourself for pennies for a perfect PWO without added fat.
Good Luck,
Dave

Good choice!
If you went with Optimum Nutrition, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Good luck, and after you've had a while to evaluate it feel free to leave a review for other users in our Supplement Review Section.

with the exception of the really high saturated fat content, I like muscle milk. It takes great and mixes easily. A lot of people don't like it because of the fat content though.
