Failure
Hi, im just wondering, i normally only really achieve Failure on my last set, i do find the other set hard, but dont fail.
MY Question is...
Should i be failing on every set?
The reason im asking the question is because i was talking to two lads the other day, who both said they worked to failure every set.

If say you are working in the 6-8 rep range, six reps should be hard, and your 8th rep the max you can do.....if you could push 9 reps or more go up in the weight.

Hi Luke..
You dont need to have a spotter and go to "total" failure on every set, but the last rep in the set that you do you should know that if you did another rep you wouldnt be able to complete that rep without a spotter helping you....

Yes im doing 6 reps, but im going to start going 8,6,6,6,4 because find it really hard on my last set (this is standing bicep curl) (Also i dont do alternate as i do my biceps at home, i only have enough weight to lift alot on one dumbell, therfore should i be taking a longer rest when ive finished each rep?)

Hi..For muscle growth the recommended rest time between sets is 60-90 seconds between sets...

I have always had a problem with understanding this too. Perhaps my muscles fatigue in a peculiar way. But if I select a weight where the final (say 8th) rep is failure, I find myself struggling to push out 6 reps on the 3rd and 4th sets. Maybe that says more about my technique than anything else.
Like the OP, I always fail on the final set, but select weights where to be fair I could probably hit 9 or 10 reps on the earlier sets.

It all depends on your rep range, if you work in say an 8 rep range then you will find that you may have to drop weight in the latter sets to complete the rep range.....
