Default dangerous Supplements?

Hi, i've been training in the gym for 8 months and i have noticed a lot of improvement. I used to be skinny with a layer of fat in my belly but now i'm stronger, i have gained weight and a lot of muscle. I've done this all through natural food, chicken breast, fish...all advices taken from here. but now, im starting to consider supplements. I used to think supplements were all steroids so i totally refused to take them, now, i've realized they arent all bad, so i started looking for them, but THERE ARE SO MANyy, i just want a protein shake, maybe something else for energy but the less the better. So any advice on the best protein shake (brand)? is it healthy? thanks
edit: which supplements may be considered as harmful? like those which, when you stop training you start to get fat

as far as protein, a lot of people use Optimum Nutrition... it's what i use, and it has been effective for me.

Optimum Nutrition is good. 24g per scoop vs say GNC which is only 20g per scoop.

A basic protein shake is what pretty much anyone on here will suggest. There is a few threads on what brand people like, just search it. My opinion, stay away from anything vanilla based!

ON 100% Whey Favorite Flavor?

The best supplements are a whey protein isolate, glucose (dextrose), and maybe creatine, which is beneficial to only certain people. Other than that everything else is outside of extremely benefitial to the taker and will have to be experimented by the individual to determine if they like the supplement or not. If I was you I would start out with the whey protein and some dextrose and then once you have your diet down a "T" then consider more supplements when the gains stop coming. Remember supplements are only good for when used when help passing platues or barriers on gains.

You need protein every day for muscle recovery and growth, if your not getting it then the body cant recover or grow from the training properly.

If your not getting adequate proteins from your diet then supplements are an option to you
