The marine science section is quite good from waht I've heard. Yeah all courses are at the college up here, and we do most of our lectures by Video Conference. It takes me about 10 minutes to cycle up there, on a good day, without loads of books in the backpack, and 20 on a bad day, heavy-laden or bad weather etc.
We are linked to 14 other colleges, from Benbecula, Shetland to Inverness, Perth etc...my geography is crap ! But it's interesting seeing yourself on screen. Actually, apart from when the college system crashed last year, due to a cable under the sea being destroyed, or something like that, in bad weather, all the lectures have taken place in the one room, apart from the ITC, and the Communications in the 1st year. On a Thursday, one tutor is based in Orkney, and the other in Inverness, so the VC just disconnects at the end of one lecture and reconnects for the next, really weird to get used to but it works. In fact for almost the whole of the 4 year course, I've sat in the same seat in the lecture room...which is kinda funny, but everyone gets used to where everyone sits, especially if there are only 2 in the room...in the 3rd year I had a lecture room all to myself, because I was the only one this end doing Ethnobotany.

Thanks, all the best for your course too, it's all go once you start...I found this from a previous post, it may help explain more so what I've covered to date:

Try this link, I don't know if it will let you in, but it should:

I'm studying 'Cultural Studies of the Highlands and Islands' with the University of the Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute. I'm in my final semester of the 4th year/Honours years of the Degree progamme. The degree covers a wide set of subject areas; this year (this semester, I should say), I have Editing Older Scots, where we have to translate and edit a manuscript; Visual sociology, a blog spot, and lots of photography; and Literature of the North Atlantic Rim; in addition to my dissertation. What are you studying?
