Default Shoulder injury perhaps

Hey everyone,
I've scoured all the threads to see what I might have done and I'm confident I haven't done anything serious to my shoulder but I definitely injured it, however slight that may be. Here's what happened.

(tues. in doug's 4 day split) All the pullup bars were taken and there was something of a line so I thought I'd do so lat pulldowns (front, not behind). Similar exercise right? Better than waiting 10min for my turn. Anyway, I'm doing 12, 10, 8, 6 and on the last set this rather attractive girl jumped on the treadmill.

For whatever reason I lost focus and started to lose the bar. I overcompensated and pulled extra hard so I wouldn't drop the weight and look like the beef cakes at the gym but as I did that I felt a sharp stabbing pain beneath my rear deltoid and a throbbing sensation after that.

I stopped after that and thought I'd give it a couple days rest.

Anyway, doing my chest day today (cause I had a personal training assessment yesterday) and it didn't ever hurt, but it definitely feels different. When I press anything it's sharp. Deep, almost to the joint feels like. Also, when pulling back to do a fly motion it's sharp. One last note, my shoulder makes a popping feeling when moving in a circular motion.

I haven't lost any range of motion and just lifting my arm doesn't hurt (aches a little) so I don't think I've torn anything but I've definitely done something.

Think it warrants a trip to a [insert who you see for this type of thing]? Also, any suggestions for one in LA?

im currently dealing with something of a shoulder injury right now too =\ i think the important thing is to just make sure you dont make it worse and itll probly get better on its own? im not too experienced with injuries this is my first from lifting weights (although i do have others from sports)

Where exactly is it hurting? in the rear deltoid area or down below it?

Also what all makes it hurt?

Perhaps it is just a normal muscle strain in the lats and it will improve in a few days. If so use some heat and stretch within painfree limits and let that muscle rest some by avoiding anything which causes pain.

Feels like right where the joint is. It hurts when I extend my arm under load (pressing motions). To be honest it feels like a strain as I've had those before (albeit in a different area) but I've never had even a slight shoulder injury.

I too am uncertain from your presentation of symptoms. Next time though get or take a picture it lasts longer and is safer (of the girl, lol).

I am thinking due to your pain occurring with lat pull downs, it should be a shoulder stabilizer. Also due to your reports of clicking with shoulder circles seems like its right on. Then you indicate with pressing motions it causes some soreness so I began to think triceps but that probably is a red herring. So I came upon the infraspinatous with possible teres minor.

This potential injury (may be a different muscle) can be checked out by you by having you perform some exercises that work on shoulder rotations. This is when the elbow is bent and you standing to the side of a mid pulley. Hold onto the D-ring with your hand and with the elbow against your rib cage turn your arm out(away from your body-arm that is furthest from the pulley). Perform this first with your good not involved(not injured) arm. 10-15 pounds. Then try with the involved side. Does this feel the same ease of movement? Or is there much more of a challenge performing the exercise. Repeat the process by turning the arm towards your body. (arm that is closest to the pulley), Good side then bad side. Note any changes.

Report back and tell us your findings. I then will give you step 2. I prefer not to give you both steps at this time due to possible injury going to step 2 first. The importance of this investigation is to locate the injured party and treat to prevent the injury from returning.

Again keep us posted!

I'll give it a try. (when I said soreness I meant soreness in the delt/shoulder area)

i had A.C. (like acromial clavical) joint separation in the shoulder....*colar bone separated from my shoulder*. very painful it was, and it took me about 2 years to heal 95% of the way. i still dont have full use of it, and my right trap muscle/shoulder muscles dont build as fast as my left b/c of it. so it takes some time to recover, just start light and build it up and dont over-do-it.

Alright. So I tried the exercise you mentioned. On the potentially injured arm it was slightly weaker and uncomfortable when doing the exercise. Nothing huge or shooting but at the very least it felt strained.

Ok so it seems that we are in the right area. If we were not then there would not be any discomfort or weakness. Now do you remember if it was pulling the arm towards your belly or away from your belly being more challenged?
