Pulling away mostly. Again, it wasn't difficult to perform either motion, it just felt...tight. That's how I would describe the pain during the exercise. Tight, tense.

Ok, out.

Now try the same movement but with your arm at shoulder level. This means that the arm is abducted or taken away from the side of your body to about 90 degrees. The rotate your arm forward then backward while maintaining your elbow elevation. Does this alter your discomfort. Is it the same as the uninvolved side?

Keep us posted!

Should my arm be bent or straight out? I'm assuming I'm supposed to hold my arm as if it were the top part of a lateral dumbbell raise, no?

Bent elbow with arm or shoulder to 90 degrees. Similar to throwing a football.

Ah, ok. No pain there. Perfectly fine actually. I tried the previous exercise and it's still a bit tender. I've isolated the discomfort though. It's actually the front (i think the previous pain was just soreness from a workout). It feels sharp and tight right where my joint is. I'd say at the front most position of my shoulder joint. At rest, no pain. Under stress though it feels tight like I'm sore and sharp like there is a needle deep in the joint. I was able to do all of the exercises in Doug's 4 day split (shoulder day) w/o pain. It's rotating outwards and/or down (as in lat pulldown) that hurts. No problem pushing upwards.

Tell me doc! Am I going to survive?

Update: Did Doug's back workout. I noticed discomfort in the same area when doing pullups and similar motions. I took things very light so as not to aggravate things. It's feeling better but I still notice some tightness along the joint.

I noticed in your last post pull ups were sore. Is it the same soreness with lat pull downs???

Yes, you are going to live. (Oops lost power last night)

I still think if you perform some external rotation with your arm (check Doug's RTC program). That your soreness will lessen. Also performing some dribbling of a light ball on the side of a wall so you back of your hand dribbles towards the wall would build up your tolerance to activity. Also perform some retraction of your shoulder blades which should help reduce the impingement in your shoulder.

All should improve the overall conditioning of the arm/shoulder to tolerate whatever you throw at it (within reason- punching the wall will still hurt- col [Cry Out Loud!])

Keep us posted.

My wall punching days are over (crummy relationships...grrr...) I'll try what you mentioned and report if it gets any worse. Thanks!

Default Update!

Hey y'all,
Thanks for the tips. I've noticed the pain and soreness coming back. It only flares up in my right shoulder during dumbbell flys or cable crossovers. Specifically when I'm moving the weight positively. I'm concerned that this might be worse than previously thought. The pain is a sharp one, real isolated, along the joint, on the back side of my shoulder. When the exercise stops it buzzes for a bit then subsides. To be honest, it feels like right after you get your flu shot.
