Default When is it best to do cardio?

Hello everyone!
I' am new to the forum and was just wondering when it was best to do cardio. Before or after weight training? I currently do it before for about 30-45minutes and then hit the weights.

Hi Fitchick, welcome to the forum...

If your goal is "fitness" then perform the cardio before weights, but if its fat loss or toning then perform "after" the weight training, as this is the best time for fat loss....

If you're doing 30 to 45 minutes BEFORE WEIGHTS, your performance in the weight room is probably going to suffer.

Can you do 10 minute warm up before and then 20 - 35 minutes afterward?

That way you're primed but not over spent for your weight workout and you can give it your all.

Thank -you all for the advice!!!! Greatly appreciated.
At the present moment my goal is fat loss and toning up, so I really have to just get in the habit of doing it after weight training.

Thanks Again!!

For your goals you may want to consider low intensity cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or HIIT training after your workouts. A search in the forum should produce a few threads outlining the pros and cons of each. -EK

I've been doing my cardio and weght training every other day, in order to keep both of them below 1 hour; there's just no way I could do the two straight, on occasion I may shift weights to one end of the day with cardio at the other (but this is only when circumstances dictate that I will miss a good deal of workouts if I don't). Also I remember reading somewhere that after about 1 hour cortisol production kicks in which is detrimental to workouts, which is why I restrict them to no more than one hour, as well as the fact that I'm flat on my face after the 45 minutes anyway.
