I'm doing pretty good I think. I've been working out and my strength has improved quite substantially, now when I do the "jumping" chinups I can actually pause for just a moment at the top. The jogging, not so well. My hips ache like nothing else when I try jogging, so I've traded in the treadmill for an exercise bike which seems to be nicer to my weight-stressed joints. I've also started taking omega supps with my protein shakes to help it out, my doctor has recommended I also take calcium because I don't like dairy very much (unless it's cheese with a nice pinot grigio).
So more changes to both routine and diet, both for the better I hope, although I do have troubles keeping my heartrate up on the bike. I'm trying to counter that by going for longer, even though I'm not sure if it works that way. I don't have a proper heartrate monitor but the hand-held thingys built into the bike handles say I maintain it at about 125-135. On the up side, my resting heartrate has dropped and my blood pressure is down. Doctor is quite happy with me.

How about you strap 40kg weights to your feet and have a go.

Regarding HR monitors and Exercise bikes. Your body will adjust to doing cardio on the bike pretty quick. There is a massive difference between a gym bike and being on the road. I can pretty much go full steam on a gym bike and never get my heart that high, certainly not out of fat burning range and i struggle to keep it in there. If you can get out onto a proper cycle. The difference is amazing.

Coming summer my man and I have already decided to start a family cycling trip, Cubs 1 and 2 are old enough to pedal now and Cub 3 can sit on the back of the bike, I'm so looking forward to it, there's a beatiful track along the river. When I'm on the exercise bike my mind wanders a little and I imagine I'm already under the gum trees.
So looking forward to it!

Thats great news, be fantastic for you and the family. I am fortunate, I get to cycle all day at work anyway.
Cycling holidays a great way for the entire family to have fun and stay in shape. You'll see so much more of the world out on pedals than you would normally and most importantly a day of toil in the saddle will get them cubs to sleep early for the Alpha male Wolf and his Wolflady to have some peaceful "together" time.
