Everyone has some weaknesses, or exercise they hate. For me that is chin ups, and anything involving the shoulders.

Like what others said, I think you might be cheating a bit with the jumps. If it makes you feel better, I started the year on zero chinups. I've currently progressed my way to, 3x15 chinups, and force myself to do them.

If your serious about improving your chinups, and getting your technique better, I think you should invest in those bands I talked about earlier. You can also use them for helping you do dips.

Good investment IMO, it will stop you from cheating.

I have been looking for the bands, no one in town stocks them so I'm broadening my shopping horizons. I hadn't forgotten your recommendation.

However, I did happent to go to one of the larger gyms in town and discovered an actual contraption entitled "Chin/Pull Up Assist Machine". You kneel on a pad and it gives you a measure of support depending on the resistance you put on. I was tempted to give it a go, but being my first time at a public gym and not being able to find any staff that weren't busy I figured it would be safer to let it go just for the time being and concentrate on building more stength (and having less arse to drag up there..).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Please don't use the crappy assisted chin/pull up machines, I rarely see (if any) people progress with these. You can barely even call them chinups.

Your better off doing jumping chins. Bands are as close as you can get to emulating real chinups, with assistance. Well, actually having a person help you is better, but finding a person to lift you up is difficult lol.

One last thing. I really hope you don't give up on chinups. Chinups are a "Strength/Endurance" type of exercise. I think I read somewhere its always good to have 1-2 exercises you suck at OR that you really hate. Chinups, fall into this category for me and I am so glad I persisted with them. Its really rewarding to reach your goals at something you suck so much at!

I'm not doing very well. My benching strength has improved dramatically but I'm still struggling a lot with the chinups. I keep telling myself that it'll become easier as I lose more fat and become lighter. A plus side is that Christmas holidays have been postponed to March '09, so my deadline for meeting up with everyone again has also been pushed back by another three months. This is giving me heaps of time to work on things.

I was thinking of having the goal of cutting fat until mid-January (get down to about 30%BF, I'm at 42% now), and then getting stuck into the super-strength training routine through February. I'm still lifting weights as part of my cutting, but I think more cardio will do me some good. Currently I'm alternating between treadmill and bike (daily), and have also added a pool lap session once a fortnight (only time I can get away and abandon the alpha male with the cubs).

I was thinking of this, 45 minute bike before breakfast, usual daily routine through the day, but adding on another hour or so of cardio before bed. I'll have four solid lifting sessions per week (about 45 minutes of lifting sometime between breakfast and lunch).

Food is still a major problem for me. I'm undereating rather badly, I'm getting about 1200 calories a day (supposed to be around 2000). I have a bad habit of sitting down and having a coffee whenever the oppurtunity to eat comes along. To counter it, I've started cooking up large amounts of brown rice on Saturday's and freezing it into portion sized tupperware. That way I just have to nuke it for a couple minutes and add some tuna and vegies. I also keep boiled eggs in the fridge that I can peel and slice and throw between a couple slices of soy linseed bread. That way I can enjoy some food without the cubs flocking in around me (I should rename them 'vultures' or 'seagulls').

Take a deep breath, think about what you're going to buy with the sweet crazy money you're going to win, and then go go go!

You can do it!

I was thinking of using half to get me some floor mats for the den and the other half as a donation to M&S for all the help. Wouldn't be happening if not for this site and all the good people in it!!
