Default What's better, machines or free weights?

So what's better for building up your muscle? Free weights like barbell, dumbbells etc or machines?

Thanx.

Digging up old threads eh Troy?

I go freeweights mostly, no pulley function help on the exercises. I do some cable exercises at the end of my workouts..For example, some light tricep pull downs.

30th of March 06, damn!

Free weights are better, but machines have their place for some things.

Free weights.

Free weights work your stability muscles, whereas machine do not, or do so to a much lesser extent.
