Default Correct military press

When doing the military press with a barbell, do you lower the barbell behind or in front of your head?

I've always lowered it behind my head but when reading on this site how to do it, it shows it being lowered in front of the head.

Military press is always done to the front...

Thanks. If you lower it behind the head, it's still working the same muscles, right?

I should stop lowering it behind the head, right?

If you want to do behind the head presses then you should do them seated with the back supported by the seat.

Both the exercise work the front delts, but the upper chest helps during military press and the side delt helps with behind the neck press....

When bringing the bar down infront of your neck you are keeping the humerus or arm bone in the plane of your scapula which would decrease possible injury. Also behind the head may put a strain on your neck musculature which may lead to problems. So yes continue infront of your neck military presses.

Beefy - you sir have to do both!
How the heck you gonna be the next Arnold only doin presses?

That's a good question and I think you might have positives to both, but I know the old fashioned blood and guts way would be presses...and you make 'em heavy. (presses are considered a compound exercise and compounds have always had the reputation of producing solid growth)

Overhead presses and some good 'ol T-Bar rows...them shoulders should grow.
