Default crunches with weights

Just curious...I know I remember Doug mentioning to use some weights when doing ab work to bring them out more. I was wondering when I do my crunches, do you hold the weights close to your chest or should I have them at the side of my head? I say side of my head meaning as if you were to do a regular crunch, you don't have your hands on your head so as to strain your neck. Just wondering what would prove more effective. Oh and does anyone know any good lower ab exercises with weights? I tried doing leg lifts on the bench and trying to have my feet grip on a dumb-bell but that proved a bit cumbersome...

Hold the weight high on the chest, to allow movement of the abs....

With lower abs, knee raises holding a dumbell in between the feet is normally the main one, or in a gym, a bench in front of a low pulley (ie low row machine) with straps around the feet, hand behind you and pull the knees up, Or another good one is toe pushes where you lie under a smith machine with the legs straight under the bar and lifting the hips off the floor...try to be inventive...

Yeah...I mean it worked...but there were a few times when the dumb-bell was becoming too loose and I feared for my family's jewels!!!

lmao, if that ever happens mate, make sure there is a video camera handy!

What about cable weighted curls?? I read that in one of Doug's workouts (the super tone one). How would you pull off a cable weighted curl? I can understand strapping the cable pulley to your feet and raising your knees towards your face etc, but a curl? Or is that the same thing?? lol...

Cheers!

Hi, Try this...Lie on the floor, and when you bring your knees up towards the chest, just bring them that little bit further so that bum and the small of the back comes off the floor slightly, so you are crunching the lower abs, same as you would do crunches but the shoulders come off the floor.....Let me know if you feel any difference in the lower abs......!!
