Towel Pull-Ups
If you haven't heard of these; listen. If you haven't done these; do them. They are a great exercise for grip work and forearms. Also, upper back and shoulders. Here's how you do them:
Towel Pull-Ups
Place two towels over a pull-up bar. Grab the ends of the towels and bang out some pull-ups. You will be shocked at how much harder it is compared to standard pull-ups.
Please post your experience w/ towel pull-ups!

I agree with you that this would be a good exercise, but would put a lot of stress on the wrists..Although most gyms should have a pull down bar with "D"'s at each end which does the same exercise but the wrist are held in the neutral position.
I couldn't allow someone to use towels or any other pieces of their own equipment in my fitness centre due to the current health and safety regulations current in the UK :-(

I did these for about a year and a half and my wrist didn't bother me at all. My partner did it for the same time as I did and he didn't have any problems either. That sux that ppl in the UK can't bring in equipment like that. I bring in my equipment all the time. Example (towels, wrist rollers, 2" holders for dumbbells), mostly strength training equipment.

There is a piece of equipment made for gyms at the moment which is on the same principle of rope climbing, called the "Grappler" and has a thick rope, you can increase the tension to make it harder. I had a go on one of them at trade show and that was hard.... :-)

Is it the same concept as a towel for pull-ups?

Basically the same just that in the towel pull ups the hands are stationary. but in the rope pull the hands are gripping the rope, pulling, and then moving upwards and gripping again. great workout for the lats/teres group, as each side is getting worked individually
