Peanut butter
Hi guys,
I have heard that peanut butter is a good snack to have when bulking, which is good because I love the stuff!
Only question I have is that I have only ever eaten the sunpat variety which is very high in fat, can anyone reccomend some other good brands that work for you?
I am in the UK.
Thanks in advance.

Sunpat used to be great peanut butter, then they 'improved' their product, and it tastes disgusting. Try and find one without palm oil in it, if you can. Most brands have vegetable fat added, for some reason. There is now also less peanut in the actual product...cost cutting exercise I would imagine. Get a grinder, and make your own: handful of peanuts, and a small amount of olive oil. At least you know what's in it that way!

Until then I have a whole jar of sunpat to use up, are you saying its ok apart from the taste? (which I actually like!!)
As a snack I tend to have it on ryveta is ryveta ok instead of bread?

It's one of the better ones, if it's the original with no added vegetable fats, since that's another addtion they made. Don't forget that the fats in peanut are monounsaturated mainly, and they're good for you. Too much of any fat is obviously fattening. Most peanut butters tend to have added stuff, and then lower the peanut content of the product, I think Sunpat used to be the highest, around 93-95% (I think, from memory), which is why I went for their product. But, make your own, and you know how much of what is in it, more peanut, good olive oil, no other additions, although you could grind some flaxseed into the mix for some EFAs, if you wanted; it will give it a slightly more nuttier flavour.
And yep, nothing wrong with ryvita. I used to have peanut butter on celery too, or with cucumber, for that different taste. Peanut butter on toast...choices are endless

How long does it usualy last before it spoils (i am assuming you have to keep it on ice once you make it) if you make it yourself? I might try this, I want some almond butter, but i dont want to pay what they are charging at Trader Joes for it.
hell i could buy a a bulk bag of peaunts in the shells, and then just sheel them my self and make my own one batch at a time. probably would save me tons

It takes a long time for peanut butter to go bad; especially if there is added oils in it. You should be able to find pure peanut butter in your grocery store, maybe in the organic section. That's where I get mine; It's made of 100% peanuts, and I really like the taste.

Wonder how many peanuts you would have to shell just to get a table spoon or two?

Get the pre-shelled unsalted ones...apparently to get 1 tablespoon peanut butter it takes around 38 peanuts if that's any help. Place the stuff in the fridge for keeping, and I only make enough to last a week at most, since it doesn't take long to make, and I like to err on the side of caution where food is concerned. Also, I forgot to mention, when first mixed it is slightly warm, from the process, but if you wanna spread it warm then it's perfect. Leave a small amount out each night in order to warm up for spreadability.
Don't forget you can also mix nuts this way, so you can have brazil/cashew/peanut mixes etc, with flaxseed etc if you want. Make to own taste, and don't necessarily restrict it to just one nut flavour...let your imagination run with it....
