Lovin the Iron
Just wanted to say hello and share a couple photos of me from February.
Current goal is to cut some and reduce body fat.
Might try some bulking after that.
Been lifting almost three years.
Constructive comments are welcome.
Thanks,
~Troy

You have a good natural physique for bodybuilding, once you strip some fat from around your waist you will have a very good build.
Keep us updated on your progress...

You can definately tell you've been lifting
Your body have good symmetry I reckon. Once you strip some fat from around the waist area you'll have a very good body shape.
Have you been working your abs as well?

Thanks for the comments all!
Yes Damien I've been working the abs more than I used to - but only twice a week and only two exercises each workout for 3 sets each.
So far I've accomplished this with no cardio - so I think that's my next step to get more of the mid section in order.
And we all know that the real place to start the abs is in the kitchen.
I'll post updates once I get started on that cardio.

Too right. I'm going to get the recipes section of this site up this week (finally) so you might find some good stuff in there.

Nothing in particular.
I think genetics have been kind to me in some ways.
I worked out with guys that competed when I was in my twenties. I'm 43 now. (No, I never juiced - but man! They would bust my arse tryin to keep up with them!)
When I started back about three years ago I did basic compound stuff and did three exercises three sets of 8 for each body part three times a week.
Yep - overtrained.
I just remembered the intensity of what I had done earlier and focused too much on getting somewhere fast.
I slowed it down and studied more on diet and nutrition and I have to say that is really when I started seeing more results. I knew the effect foods would have on me and the way I recovered, my strength, general energy, my moods and even my attitude.
Tried 5x5 for a while and got some good basic strength but didn't see much size. I then switched to Chest/Tri/Shoulders and Back/Bi/Legs about three months ago. I do this every third day. For example: I'll do C/T/S on Monday
and then Thursday it is B/B/L, Sunday C/T/S and so on. I still only shoot for three exercises for each body part except legs - I do four or five depending on how much gas I got in the tank.
I throw Abs in haphazardly a couple times a week.

I think everyone thats new to weight training does that, wants to get huge very quickly, I know I did
Once you've been in the game for a while and learn more about how your body works, how muscle building works etc you tend to change your routine and diet pretty quickly.
I've tried a 5x5 prorgram too, but like you, I only saw some mild strength gains and little (if not no) mass gains. I tend to build the most mass alternating between 6-8 reps and 8-12 reps. For example one week I up the weight and push for 6-8, next week i drop the weight a bit and aim for 10. I find that after the higher rep week Im feeling stronger for the heavy week.
