Default cold water

im not sure if everyone is aware but drinking cold water eg ice cold actually slows down your metabilism, the best tempreture to drink water at to keep your metabilisim normal/ same as regular is at room tempreture.....

just thought this would be a useful fact for everyone trying to loose weight and cut, just a simple and easy way to help

but to be honest in the blistering sun i am partial to a nice ice cold drink ^_^

SORRY EVRY1 THIS INFO IS WRONG - THANX TO DOUG AND EVRY1 FOR CORRECTING ME... sorry all

Hi Zeph, I have to disagree with what you have put above, from research that I have read when ingesting cold liquids the bodys metabolism is reportedly raised to warm the water and futher work is required for the body to absorb the fluid, Cold water is also ingested more quickly and leaves the stomach faster than room temperature water which is great for athletes who exercise/compete in hot temperatures as this can help in preventing dehydration....

Doug is 100% right...the body will actually burn more calories trying to warm that ice cold water up which can only help or increase your metabolism, definitely NOT slow it down. I've never heard or read anything that suggests room temperature water is better than ice cold.

Here's the chemist in me speaking...

1 calorie is defined as the amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of one gram of water by one degree centigrade.

NB! Also remember that the word "calorie" that we use in dieting jargon is actually 1 kilocalorie (kcal) from an energy point of view.

If we do the math, drinking 250 mL (~250 g) of ice-cold water (~2°C) would require our body to raise the temperature by 35°C.

That's 35° C * 250 g = 8750 cal = 8.75 kcal

In diet terms, drinking 250 mL (1 glass) of ice-cold water will use ~9 calories.

Haha, it's cool mate. We all make mistakes, and to be honest, I thought water was just water regardless of temperature (excluding extremes such as boiling or frozen; I'm not slack of mind lol).

Anyway, best start chugging down those cold beverages!

If you drink 55 glasses of ice-cold water every day on while on a maintenance diet, you'll lose a pound a week.

I'll recommend that to my clients, especially if they buy the water from my fridges...

Interesting conversation...I drink ice cold water all the time, where as my mom can't stand it and she drinks room temperature. I'll tell her she can increase her metabolism by drinking it and maybe we'll have more cold water in the fridge

My family buys the stuff by the case full....We'll buy 8 to 10 cases of thirty bottles and stack them in a nice big tower. I'll polish off one case every few days so we get through the stuff pretty quickly.

Why drink bottled water by the case? Its a lot cheaper to buy it by the gallon jug. I actually drink warm/hot water quite often, I find it tastes better and soothes my stomach. Anyone have any interesting facts on the bodies reaction to warm/hot water.
