I'm just wondering if anyone has any weight gain stories they could tell to give me hope that it is possible.
I'm 6'3 150 lbs and have been around this weight for a few years now. I started working out again and am very dedicated. I plan on working out 5 days a week. I am not trying to get massive or muscular, just bigger and stronger than I am now. Anyone got similar stories? Any words of wisdom? Thanks |

I know I have no pictures to back it up, but I figure since I'm around your height, I as might as well give my numbers. Last September (just before my freshman year at college), I was 170 lbs and skinny as sh*t. I'm 6'4", and the very definition of an ectomorph for the record, so you can just imagine how skinny I was. Now, mid Feb I'm hovering somewhere around 205 lbs. If you take in to account that I got my noob gains (started lifting for the first time since freshman year of high school) and got the ability to eat roughly double what I was eating before college, I can say that most of it is not fat. There is a little bit that I gained, but I only went up from 10% bf to 12-13% bf, so it's not too bad for 35 lbs.
To tell you the truth, I was a skeptic before I started lifting. I didn't have any idea what I was doing diet-wise before I came to college, and I thought that I would never gain any weight. Well, I'm still very skinny, but I'm no longer small. Just don't lose hope if you don't see any initial gain, because gaining weight sucks as a process, but the results are awesome. The thing is, us tall ectomorphic people don't have to watch our diet as much as shorter people for the most part. Unless you want to be a professional bodybuilder, in which case, don't listen to me. Don't worry about every little thing you eat so much, because you'll find that you won't gain too much fat simply because of your body type. Now, that doesn't mean that cake and candy is good, always go for real, protein filled food. My suggestion is to go for it, try gaining weight. To tell you the honest truth, I've always been very skinny, and while my bf was always very low, I simply didn't like being so small. Everytime I pass a mirror now, I stop to look at the past 4 or 5 months of work and every time I see it, I immediately get a great feeling. So my suggestion is to definitely go for, it'll make you feel great. Also, girls definitely do start eyeballing you a lot more when you look good. So in short, it makes you feel good and look good, which ultimately makes you a lot happier of a person. |

Hey buddy!
A bunch of people on these forums have some good weight gain stories. I used to be 120lbs and 6' 1" at the end of high school, incredibly skinning it was unreal. However with the assistance of the great people that frequent these forums I am now 180 pounds and loving it. Feel free to send me a private message if you need help or you can post in my Training journal I check it almost every day: Metal's 2010 Goals I started out after graduating high school and going into my college years at 120 lbs, depressed and just not feeling good about anything in my life. I eat very badly and ate a lot and struggled my way up to 140ish or so from fat gains and no physical activity. I turned 19 in August of '09 and decided I wanted to change the way I looked I had got fed up with it and just needed to change. I got myself a gym membership for my birthday and took to it just starting out clueless doing random machines and basically wasting my time. Until I found this site in Nov '09 I signed up right then and there and took in all the knowledge I could. Did the 12 week beginner routine and loved it, though I struggled through it since I had been a hardcore gamer throughout high school and had a desk job in college... Needless to say my legs were extremely skinny and weak. Now I've been on a bulking phase that has lasted about 1 month and a new routine that I got from another ectomorph that has helped me a ton BendtheBar. So far in one month on his routine I've gained 14-15 pounds of muscle and even managed to lose .20 lbs of fat! Looking forward to continuing the bulk and hopefully hit 200 lbs mid to late march if not sooner! And I definitely have to comment on what Jbar91 said about girls eyeballing you... It does happen to me A LOT more now then it ever did before (before it was never) now I got girls in my class just staring at me when I walk in and take my jacket off. Definitely feels great, though I don't know how much of it is from the muscles and how much is from the confidence I've gained from actually liking how I look now? Either way it's a nice change from before and it makes you feel super. Good luck with your goals friend. -Mark

You will find it easier if you have 5 or more meals per day, reduce any sport you do and train at most 3 days per week involving compound movements for big muscles like back and legs. Also drink around 500ml before/during/after each meal to help shuttle the nutrients around and gain water weight.
To start off, add an extra meal and slowly over time add another meal and make the meals larger, if you rush you'll just feel sick after eating lots of food. |
