Question Supplementing Weightloss

Hello, i know this question is probably asked a lot but i looked in the supplement section and didnt really see anything in regards. Is there any supplement i should take while cutting bodyfat?

I already have Whey Isolate on order and no im not looking for a magic diet pill im just curious about supplements that will ensure or help ensure the weight i lose is fat instead of muscle or at least at the highest ratio possible

Im already doing one of the workout routines, low intensity cardio 4x a week as well as a 500 calorie deficit. I currently take a regular 1 a day multivitamin and was thinking of trying Animal Pak instead? When my whey iso gets here ill be taking that twice a day...once when waking up and then PWO.

A somewhat related question...should i drink the shake after my lifting but before cardio or after everything? Thanks!

Hey Jeff,

The most important thing for your cut is your cal deficit and your routine, and it sounds like that's on track. A multi-vitamin and whey will be fine.

As for the question about post workout shake, wait until after your cardio. That cardio will maximize fat loss when your energy levels are low (after weightlifting, before refueling from nutrition).

You want to try to do your cardio on an empty stomach if you want to lose weight.

If you can't do it on an empty stomach, do it immediately after your lifting routine.

Currently im doing the cardio right after my lifting routine as im not a fan of running and tend to do the elliptical machine but my gym is state owned, doesnt open until 7 or 8am and im at work by 6am. Couple that with a 30 minute lunch and generally have to wait until the afternoon to do so.

The elliptical machine is fine. If you don't like running you could try out the spinner bikes. It is even better if your gym has spinning classes, easier to press yourself to the limit with an instructor screaming to you.

Exercising in the afternoons are not a problem, just try not to do it right before you go to bed. Some find it hard to sleep afterwards...

Negative Ghost Rider. Spinning and the elliptical are horrible for body fat loss, as they get your heart rate up too high to effectively burn anything but carbs and muscle. Shoot for a steady, fast-paced walk at around 65% of your maximum heart rate. 45 minutes of this four or five days per week. -EK

Eknight, after doing high intensity for the last 3 months before realizing it was wrong...going a steady pace on the elliptical only gets my HR up to around 130-135...would it still be better off at a fast walk? According to my MHR thats about 65%-70%, i WAS training at about 155-160 BPM so closer to 80-82% which i realize now is way too high.

Nope, if you can keep your HR that low on the elliptical, then stay at it. Many people are unable to do so, so you have a nice tool to work with there! -EK

That is what I do as well. I target 136 bpm, and I alternate between the elliptical and the treadmill, but always watching the heart rate and making sure that I keep it right around that 65-70% mark. I find the treadmill is harder for me to keep it under 140 than the elliptical.
