Who is Tony Horton? I am Yitmy. I understood what you were saying about loading the bar and keeping it on the rack as my 2nd post stated. The reason why it is not really sufficient to stretch your biceps is the you are not really extending your shoulder. Remember biceps are also a weak shoulder flexor along with a strong elbow flexor. So combining the two would be great.
Yes you can get a stretch using your technique(but only with the lower fibers). You can also perform eccentric contractions on the preacher bench and get an even finer workout with stretching too. (there are some good studies out there on the effectiveness of eccentric loading and increasing flexibility and strength). And regarding what I use now...well it works for me. This post is not about what I choose to exercise with in the privacy of my home. As you can see from my workouts in the workout section I combine use of my BowFlex with freeweights. It enables me to exercise safely without a spotter.
