Default RPE vs. Heart rate bump.

Dougs Original Post: As caffeine increases heart rate due to it binding to adensoine receptors and causing the block of adensoine which in turn causes a rise in the production of epenephrine, which then increases the heart rate, you cant correctly calculate a target heart rate. Use Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) instead..Much the same as people using blood pressure medications that slow the heart rate.

Doug mentioned something about RPE, and he always gives really good advice so I want to follow it, but from what i understand of it you just judge how your workout feels to you. WOuld it be easier just to stop taking the caffine and just go off heart rate? Or does caffine help fat loss, like they say it does? Cause that's the only reason I'm taking it. I read in conjunction with L-canatine-acytl it's sopposed to mobilize fat cells and help guide them to the mitochondria to be burned. I'm going of of heart rate right now. 45 min on off weight days, and 30 min after weights. If caffine is a plus for cardio can someone give advice on how to effectively guage RPE? I'm just scared I'd work out for to long in an anerobic state......

Due to caffeine's effect on DHEA and cortisol production, I'd skip it and use 1500-2000mg of regular l-carnitine on an empty stomach pre-cardio. -EK
