Question Which Workout?

Hello everyone, I asked a question in a different section of the forum and decided id be better off asking here.

To introduce myself im 24, male, 282 pounds and 25% bodyfat at 6'6" I know before i started i was over 30% bodyfat but never got tested RIGHT before starting like i should have.. Ive been lifting off and on since 17 or 18 when in the football program in highschool. I was 335 pounds when i started south beach on Nov 3rd of 2009 and so far have worked my way up to about an hour of high intensity elliptical machine cardio 3-4 times a week. I realize ive lost at least 10-15 pounds of muscle with the last 53 pounds lost so want to add weight training back into the mix.

My question is more leaning towards what type of workout i should do? I planned on lowering my cardio to 30 minutes instead of the 1 hour+ sessions ive been doing. Ive been out of lifting for a year almost so was wondering if i should do the beginners workout by doug with 2 days of nonconsecutive lifting....or should i do the 4 day split that seems so popular on this site and is in the weight loss/fat burning workout tab. So far ive used no supplements...and my grocery bill has skyrocketed but it's definetly worth it.

Thanks for your time, i appreciate it very much!

Congrats on your losses! As far as which workout to choose I would keep your goals in mind. Given that you have some lifting exp an intermediate program might be suiting however the beginner workout is a GREAT place to start things off. You are either bulking or cutting (+500 or -500 calories). Your cardio time seems appropriate. Back to. Which work out... It all depends ok what you are trying to do ei. Build muscle. Strength. Fatloss. Pick one that applies to your goals and stick to the diet. Most of you results will pend on this factor. Hope that helps

As per the above, it's a very good idea to start with the beginner's routines to re-adapt your body to a workout and get your technique down.

Stay motivated and good luck in the future.

Right now in all honesty my main goal is fat loss while maintaining muscle. Dougs 4 Day Split Mega Cutting Routine is what i decided to start on, i know its not beginner but i know the majority of all the exercises listed. The weight feels weird after being gone for a while so for this week to conctrate on form i did light weight and a bit slower on my timing then 1-1-1 for the tri sets so far, im actually more sore then any of the re-starts i can remember before. Thanks for the advice though everyone its much appreciated and look forward to getting you know ya in the next few months/years

With all due respect you should be starting with a Beginner Routine to allow your body and CNS to readjust to Weight Lifting. There is no shame in doing right by your body.

I understand where you're coming from with that Blitz, if i do a beginner routine is it really a must i follow it for the 12 weeks everyone recommends? Or would just 2-4 weeks then switching to the 4 day split work okay? Just curious

I followed the begginers routine just 6 weeks I think, I mean nothing bad is going to happen to you but it would be better if you followed it the 10-12 weeks that's recommended.
