Default Forearms tighten

Hi,

I am beginner following Doug's beginner's routine. One problem i have is by the time i get to the middle of the routine my forearms tighten up a lot and pain. Is it normal. I sometimes feel my forearms are taking most of the load and I am not targetting the actual muscles.

I try to the follow technique as shown in the work out videos.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

If it is a sharp pain, you could have strained a muscle and injured yourself. If it is a burning feeling from working your forearms, you are fine.

Your forearms are doing work at the same time as the targetted muscles, but not taking anything away from them. Your forearms are contracting to keep the weight in your hand, while your targetted muscle(s) are moving the weight through the desired movement. I love a good forearm burn from compound movements, especially deadlifts followed by pullups. You'll get strong forearms soon and love them.

Your forearm muscles are weak, and thus your weakness in lifting. You could stretch prior or maybe even during to loosen them up.

I have a similar problem with my wrists and hands depending on the excercise and the day(sometimes no problems). Doing forearm excersises to make them stronger will help. Look at the "excercises" at the top of the forum. Doing reverse concentration curls and reverse preacher curls amoungst others should help. don't over do it though, start out with lighter weights so you don't strain yourself too much until your forearms get stronger to support the weight. Good luck. Don't these little problems cause frustrations??? Urgh...

Forearm exercises will help speed up the process as well.
