Default Strength vs. Size

I'm going for both huge strength gains and huge muscle gains. So which one should I focus on? Will a strength routine get me a lot of mass, or vice versa?

Well I would have to say that if you want the apple you could go to the store and buy a bushel but then you have to go to the store again and again each time your bushel runs out. Instead you could start to grow and apple tree and although it might not be very big now , over time it will get much bigger and bigger and produce many apples for you... the main point of the story is that if you want to be big you first have to be strong , use the search feature on the site to find a Strength routine also start to eat enough calories to grow and you will find that your strength will increase greatly , after 3-6 months of pure strength training transition to a bulking phase using a more body building style workout and allowing alot of rest so your muscles can repair and be at full strength for the next grueling workout and again , make sure you are eating enough calories ..... GOOD in GOOD out -- Good luck !

Thanks, Ivan!
I'm cleaning up my diet a lot and am also funneling in a lot more food than I'm used to it. It's a weird transition, but feels good.

Oops but that is not the case with muscle building.

Muscle building routines are there because they build muscle primarily, and increase strength to some extent.
Strength routines are there to increase lifting strength, and build some mass to some extent.

And as a counter to you, I believe as a neophyte, starting off with strength routine might be more risky on joints, since your body is not used to heavy loads, and you are not perfect with form. And your ego comes frequently in the way.

So, you're saying I should start out with a muscle building routine?

imo if you are new to training your strength will go up as your CNS adapts to lifting and your muscles will grow, after a few months or whatever you can decide what you want to do from that point.

I'm thinking the same thing will happen. I've been extremely fond of MMA and Wrestling, so I may just work on strength and muscular endurance and see how the gains are from that.
