Default Max Dumbbell weight needed

i am looking to purchase some power block dumbbells, my main goal to to bulk up. in order to continue with progressive overload would a 5-50 set do or should i purchase a 5-90 set? also if i can currently do a bicep curl 12 times with a 30lbs weight how soon could i expect to need a 90 lb dumbbell? any help would be appreciated.

Will probably never need a 90lbs dumbbell for doing bicep curls! (unless you are going to start juicin') But you may need 90lbs dumbbells for one arm rows or dumbbell pressing movements.

I'm not sure, but can't you buy 5 to 50lbs set first and then add or up grade to the 55 - 90lbs set?

I have a pair at home for my personal training business, but can't recall how much poundage each powerblock goes up to but know for a fact that my clients have never needed them to be so heavy.

Hope that helps,

Dave

yes that does help, i believe you can add on, i am going to check there website. the curls are probably a bad example as far i my current weight level goes. i was trying to use them as a bench mark or where i stand. i currently do my one arm rows with 30lb weights (the max weight i own) so larger weight are probably necessary.

only thing i can think is if you are using them for d/b squats or something you could hit 50 pounds pretty easily.

Dumbell rows, Dumbell chest and shoulder presses. You could need upto 90lb dumbells.

I curl 30 about 12 times and i need 45's for the dumbell bench so i would go with the other set if i were you.

i use the 30s for the bench also and i don't have to push my self as much as do when i do the curls at 30. 45s would definitely make that more effective.

I also have a 5-50lb set I use in my Personal Training business and have never needed more. When a Client moved to heavier squating an inexpensive 300lb barbell set was purchased for 200$.

In all actuallity if I was you, knowing I was going to home train. I would spend the 270$ the Blocks will cost you on a good used Olympic Barbell and 200 lbs of weight and a bench.
