Creatine is as safe as aspirin and many, many, bodybuilders utilize it year round with only short 2-4 week off cycles every 4-6 months.

Kreider RB, et al. Long term creatine supplementation does not significantly affect clinical markers of health in athletes. Mol Cell Biochem 2003 Feb;244(1-2):95-104

Be clear about this- it's safe for healthy adults (ie, no one under 18 and no one with previous kidney issues). -EK

I didn't get the impression that the OP was looking for a shortcut. I think it's unfair to the OP to assume that he was.

We are all looking to maximize our efforts. There is nothing wrong with that. We invest blood, sweat and tears in the weight room, and watch cheaters prosper all around us. As naturals, we should arm ourselves with information and personal experience.

No one should tell you not to take a supplement based on an opinion, as long as it's not for the wrong reasons or the wrong product for the job. Everyone has a right to personal experience and all sides of the story.

Always research a supplement before you try it, so you know why seasoned lifters take it, and what to expect from it. And never short change yourself by adopting the personal experience of another as gospel.

Lifting and supplements all come to down to finding what works for you. That's the magic. When someone rants and raves on a forum not to try something, they have a good heart - but their energy is misguided. They have had their magic taken from them by a supplement, but that doesn't give them the right to steal your magic.

Try for yourself. And try it armed with knowledge. It's as simple as that.

I got that impression, too, by the statement, "I just don't want to go through getting bigger by bulking." -EK

Then why not arm him with information on a lean bulk? Why assume his point of view?

Every young trainee has built an opinion based on the information they receive. There is a strong chance that his perception of bulking is gorging and getting fat. But we do not know for certain, and assuming that we do is arrogant and wrong.

Instead of assuming what the OP meant, which is extremely unfair, why not try and help him by asking questions?

I see your point as I reread his post. I personally see creatine as a top 3 supp. for people with full organ development.

18 seems to be the number quoted on this site. Hell I donot know the specific age ...18 was 30 years ago for me and I wasnt on a healthy path as a lot of these youngsters.....lol

BTB- I did inform him that at his current caloric intake, he was not going to gain muscle. What part of that was confusing? How else in the world are you going to bulk without the calories to grow on? He's welcome to try creatine if he chooses, but that alone- as I clearly pointed out- willnot allow him to put on size. -EK

It is also illegal to sell creatine to minors(under 18).

It's not technically illegal. The bill before Senate didn't get passed federally, so it's a state by state thing. Many supp shops have internal policies against it though, for fear of liability. I know Vitamin World does, and I believe our local Vitamin Shoppe is the same. -EK
