Default calves hurt

So heres my issue, ive been running for years (not always consistently) from September to December i have been running 2-5 times a week then play football 1-2 times over the weekend. my runs are 11km and take me 58 minutes average.
I stopped running over Christmas from dec17-jan3, during that time i played football once and thats about it. I got new insoles for my shoes, they are athletic ones, i thought they were good.

Once i got back i ran 6days in a row and played football 2times as well. after that my calves hurt but i just kept going without to much worry. a week ago during football my calves REALLY hurt when running so i stopped and over this past week i have not run but have been stretching the muscle 2 times a day (before this i never really stretched. well, just a little)

I went for a run today and my calves still hurt. my friend says that i need to work them out more but i dont think thats it. Oh i go to the gym 4 times a week as well, been doing that since September I also stopped that over Christmas (except hitting the punching bag a couple times)

I was wondering if any of you had some wisdom for me. my calves didnt hurt that bad today but more than they should.

Thanks in advance

My guess, check those insoles to make sure your not running up on your toes too much.
Other thing to do - deep tissue massage, even if you do it yourself, that's fine - hit each leg ten minutes twice a day and see what happens after two or three days.
Lastly, keep them warm with higher socks if the weather has changed all of a sudden for you.

Your insoles are probably changing the angle that your feet hit the ground at putting different pressures on your legs causing you to over /under pronate which can cause pain in the calves and shins. Ask someone with a knowledge of running shoes to check your gait and find out whether you should be using the insoles or a different style of shoe.

For now i think ill switch shoes to see if that helps. I have some that i used all summer while working and i never had pain issues with them.
I know of a good sports store that should be able to help me figure out what my gait is.

Alright ill get right on it, thanks for the help!! hopefully it works. I like running lol
