Default Pull ups

Ok, say I can do 1-2 standard pull ups. My workout says to do 8 reps, so, should I just do all 8 on a pulldown machine...or should I do as many real ones as possible and then move to the pulldown machine? And lastly, if I am able to do 1 or 2...if I do one or two real ones and can't pull anymore could that be beneficial as a whole set or should I jump on the pulldown machine?

Perform negative's..

If your rep range is 8 reps and you can only get two full reps then for the next six reps you perform negatives. Jump up to the bar, and lower yourself down slowly, complete this method for the next six reps. Make sure that you dont just let yourself go down from the bar, but resist the downward part as slow as you can, this way gradually as your back strength increases you will be able to do more full reps.

Have you tried negatives? Basically, you can jump to get your weight up to the bar, and use the appropriate muscles to very slowly lower yourself down. This allows you to continue using your bodyweight as the resistance, and continues to stress the muscle with the appropriate motions.

Edit: Doug beat me to it...

I was curious about this also. I do pullups tonight for the first time and I doubt I will be able pull off very many. So I'll do negs.

I'll get out of your thread now nsteck2345.
