Exclamation Few questions -- trying to loose some weight

Hey All,

First of all, you guys sure have a nice forum, I am really glad that I found all this with full access....

Now, I am 23 yo, my hight is 6.0 ft or 184 cm weighing 233 lb. In the past two years, I lost around 35 pounds just by changing my eating habits and playing soccer, however, I stopped loosing weight and being stuck for around 4 months now, and i am looking for more weight to be gone...

As I have been reading stuff from all over the place, everyone is kinda recommending weight lifting, which i really liked. Currently, I am following one of the M&S beginners workouts which should last for around 10 weeks.

Now, I did the BMR thing <http://www.muscleandstrength.com/tools/bmr-and-daily-calorie-calculator.html>, and I got a crazy number for the calories that I should consume < ~3500 cal/day Does this make any sense ?! i just think this is too much, i have been consuming at most 2300 if i am doing too much, but regularly i try to stay in 1700 - 2000 range..

Do you guys think I should continue on doing weight lifting ? because I have a lot of weight to loose, as far as my body goes, my weight concentrated in the abdominal area, my lower body is perfect.. I kinda felt that it doesn't make sense to lift weight to loose like 40 bounds which is my goal at the moment, what do you guys think ?

so to sumup,
- do you think I should continue on doing the beginner program then move to a split ?
- calories wise, what should my daily intake be if i am weight lifting ?
- if weight lifting is not for me at this moment, what is ?

thanks y'all

##A big body requires more calories. I did the calculatore for "Lightly Active" and I got 3173 calories.

Now you have to subtract calories from that to create a deficit 3173 - 500 = 2673 (2600 cals)

i just think this is too much, i have been consuming at most 2300 if i am doing too much, but regularly i try to stay in 1700 - 2000 range..
## If you've stayed in the 1700 - 2000 range, but are no longer losing weight, your body is trying to tell you something.

Do you guys think I should continue on doing weight lifting?
## YES, continue to weight lift so you maintain the muscle you have as you lose fat.

because I have a lot of weight to loose, as far as my body goes, my weight concentrated in the abdominal area, my lower body is perfect.. I kinda felt that it doesn't make sense to lift weight to loose like 40 bounds which is my goal at the moment, what do you guys think ?
## It wouldn't make sense if the act of lifting weights made you gain weight. but if you are truly eating less calories than your body requires (As calculated by the BMR Calculator) then you should be losing weight. IF you aren't losing weight you're either not tracking your calories properly or you are in starvation mode where the body holds on to body fat.

so to sumup,
- do you think I should continue on doing the beginner program then move to a split ?
## I Do. Continue weight trianing.

- calories wise, what should my daily intake be if i am weight lifting ?
##I would stick with a deficit of 500 calories and try to hit the calorie target of 2600 each day. Of course, you'll have to "RAMP UP" to this calorie level if you've been eating 1700-2000 calories a day. This will take a good deal of detail as you'll have to get more seroius about your calorie tracking and meal composition.
- if weight lifting is not for me at this moment, what is ?
## Weight Lifting *IS* for you at this moment. The weight you lose by just dieting and doing cardio is fat mass and muscle mass. When you lose a great deal of muscle mass your body burns less calories at rest which makes it easier to put the weight back on.

thanks y'all

## YOu're Welcome. Hopefuly that made sense to you.

I agree, weight training for you is essential. Work really hard at it, it will determine how much success you have to a certain degree.

You will have to mess around with the calorie intake. Going too low off the BMR might not be the right thing for you, if you're on a plateau. Losing the extra weight is challenging and requires a lot of strategies and more patience that you can imagine. Stick through it and you'll get it though.

Just remember, hitting the diet is #1 most important thing of all. Research, find out what you can do better, what you might be doing wrong and constantly make improvements.

Try posting some samples of your diet on the board and maybe some of us can help you.
