This post could be posted in the injuries section perhaps, but maybe there are a few begginners like myself with the same problem which it may help.
To cut a long story short, I get chronic lower back pain on he right side so have started doing Doug's sticky post about back exercises (top of injury page) and they seem to be helping strengthen my back. The one thing which I always question is how much to do?? Let me explain.... Doug your post say's that the pain may become worse at the start but will decrease (hopefully) over time as you get fitter and not to be afraid of this pain. The problem is I read so many other articles which tell me not to do anything which leads to more pain as your training. So can someone please explain to me if training with pain is OK??? Or should I only do the exercises which don't course any pain at all??? Regards |

Be careful. You don't want to **** around with your lower back. You really need to listen to your body to determine if this is the type of pain you can push through or that needs some attention. If the pain is seriously disturbing you see a doctor, physiotherapist or trained professional for recommendations. It would be much better to find out now whether there's something wrong and fix it before it becomes a much larger issue. Personally I'd also recommend adding specific stretches for your lower back, icing or heating the area and practicing perfect form. It's likely this one area is weaker than other parts of your body and the best remedy would be to give it extra attention. You'll become much stronger in the long run by devoting some deep analysis into the problem in the present.

It's not Doug's advice which I was questioning, just the amount of pain of which these extra back exersices would give me, so I could get an idea of what is acceptible to aiding my back, or which is making it worse. Thanks for your reply's though, both are good advice.
