Default New to working out, and to the forum.

Hey everyone. My names Jared. I've just started getting interested in working out in the past couple of weeks. But alas, I don't know where to start. My first and foremost goal is to lose 10-15 pounds, and get my body more toned.

Right now I'm 200lbs (90 kilos), and I'm roughly 6'4 and I'm 18 years old. Lately I've been putting on more weight than I'd like to of, and its kind of got my discouraged. Which is part of the reason I want to get rid of the added weight.

At home, which is where I would prefer to work out (although I'm considering getting a gym membership) I have a set of free weights, and that is it. Now I know a lot can be done with free weights, but like I said, I'm not quite sure where to start. My intent is also to do some running before work for maybe half an hour or so. Which means I will have to get up at about 2:30-3:00 in the morning in order to be ready for work. But thats a sacrifice I'm willing to make

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully get some pointers as to how I can get started in the right direction to accomplish my goals.

Jared

Hi Welcome to the forum

Firstly have a look at This Routine for you home workout.

If you post up your current nutrition plan, ie what you eat and what time of the day that you eat it, we can have a look at it for you..

Thanks Doug. My nutrition plan is fairly non-existant. I usually eat a bowl of cereal in the morning, at about 4-430. Then between 730-830, which is my break, I usually just grab a snack or something at work, maybe a banana or orange (I work at a grocery store 'till I go to college). Then I'll usually grab a sandwich or something of that nature. Then I'll usually wait till supper time. When we usually have chicken, spaghetti, pork, pizza. We also have Kraft Dinner, rice, or noodles with supper, depends what we are having though.

I wasn't to descriptive, but I hope that helps give you an idea.

Hi....

Your caloric intake is too low.

What you should first is have a look at This Calculator and activity calculator, that will tell you how many calories you would require per day, from that amount subtract 500 calories and include some cardiovascular exercise that would burn futher calories to aid in your goal to to lose body fat.

Then have a look at the nutrition articles contained in this Section to help sort the nutrition side of attaining your goal.

Any questions then post them up...

So I checked out the calculator, and it says that for right now, doing what I'm doing. I would need 1519 calories per day. If I was working out every other day, it says I should be taking in 1740 calories per day.

I also took a look at the diets, but it seems like its going to be really difficult to do them. Just based on how much time I have. Hopefully I can work something out with my parents too.

Hi...Why would it be difficult to have a healthy eating plan..??

I dont know what figures you put into the calculator, but the calories of 1519 calories is far too low given that your weight is 200lb, your resting metabolic rate would be approx 2000-2400 calories...????

I put the following figures in.

Unit of measurment: Lbs/Inches

Body Weight: 200lbs

Height: 6'3"

Age: 18

Sex: Male

After I put that in, first I chose I am sedentary, because for the psat little while I have been. Then re-entered everything and chose Lightly active, since I will be working out every other day and it gave me those numbers. I don't think I entered anything wrong, but I could very well have haha.
